Why it's broken[edit]
Hey, ChcknNoodlez! I have a few thoughts on why it was unbalanced. First of all, by 18th level, you could score a critical hit on a 16-20. That is a 25% chance to get a critical hit on an attack roll. That means that 25% of the time, you will double your damage. In combination with the ability to add your Constitution modifier to a critical hit and how many attacks fighters do, it means you will be scoring a critical hit almost every round and doing a ton of damage with it. In addition, the 7th-level ability of the Champion Fighter is very good, as adding half your proficiency bonus (even not rounded up) to Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution checks is better than most people give it credit for. Now, you made it so it is rounded up and at a much lower level. The additional critical hit chance is enough at first level. Finally, the ability to add your Constitution modifier to the damage of a critical hit s basically giving you a free +3 to damage for already a very common critical hit. This is why I am in the process of rewriting the subclass. Hopefully you understand. --MarshDASavage (talk) 11:32, 16 February 2021 (MST)
My Response[edit]
Hello, I know it appears unbalanced at first, but in reality it's somewhat less broken than it appears. The third level ability to score a critical hit upon a 19-20 is something that not just champion fighters get but also hexblade warlocks as well. Not only at a much lower level(level 1), but as well as additional features such as spell casting and numerous other abilities. The addition of half proficiency to checks was because I recognized it was a decent feature but was not worth it as a full subclass feature, when again many other subclasses gain something similar but in greater and more usefull capacity in and out of combat. The ability to add constitution modifier to damage was meant to allow the critical to be a critical and take advantage of the ability. The fighter may have more attacks than any other class however at later levels this is mediocre damage. A 20th level fighter upon a crit does less than half the damage than almost any other class, even with the addition to constitution modifier to damage it will be doing significantly less damage than a class such as Paladins, which can do over 100 damage in a single attack especially at higher levels. Please if you will be making changes make them on a separate page, this subclass is made for a westmarch server and has already been approved by the moderators there I would not like to have to get it reapproved with features I did not add nor I intended to add.
- A paladin can deal over 100 damage in a single hit, sure. This also costs them multiple high level spell slots. This costs you nothing, and you do it all the time.
- You don't get to decide what happens to this page. Move it to your userpage if you absolutely must prevent others from editing it. --SwankyPants (talk) 12:03, 16 February 2021 (MST)
