Problems with the aviator class(see Class Do's and Don'ts (5e Guideline)):[edit]

  • The class is missing features at levels 7, 13, and 17.
  • Sky's Grace. No effect should be able to change the DC on a saving throw
  • Mach IV. No round counting, make the effect last until the start of your next turn and make it recharged after you finish a short or long rest. Also change the incapacitated part to last until the start of your next turn.
  • Majestic Flight. You should not be able to gain double proficiency all Dexterity saving throws at 1st level, just acrobatics is enough
  • Swiftness. You can not deny a critical hit, attacks don't work like that
  • Beautiful Feather. No feature should make attacks automatically miss, and the feature should not be recharged after two long rests, use short rest or long rest instead
  • Feather Dance of the Heart. Again round counting, make it last until the start of your next turn and make it regained on short or long rest
  • Feather Dance of the Peaceful Cosmos. This feature is incredibly convoluted, make it do a set effect in a range instead of summoning cosmic feathers, making the DM make up feather movement on the spot, and don't make them randomly placed onto the map. Also change the feature to be regained on a long rest not x long rests
  • Powerful Flight. Same as majestic flight, athletics is enough
  • Flurry of Strikes. This is extremely overpowered. This makes this archetype deal an absurd amount of damage far too early.
  • Dive Attack. You can change this to be regained on a short rest as well if flurry of strikes is removed
  • Attack Maneuvering. You can already move between attacks and this feature provides far too much, the class already gets bonus flying speed they don't need more
  • Feather Dance of the Blade. Specifically state that the damage only deals a set amount as this feature is beyond broken with magical weapons. Also make it regained on a long rest.
  • Feather Dance of the Radiant Sun. This feature is extremely broken, no feature or effect should reduce a creature's HP in the way this feature does. Again, choose to make this feature regained on a short or long rest.
  • Multiclassing. The Dexterity requirement is far too high and multiclassing requirements are always odd, I would recommend changing it to 15

That is all the problems the class has for now.--Blobby383b (talk) 11:35, 9 November 2017 (MST)

Thank you for the criticism, Blobby! I hope the class is better now! :)

Wow, you did a lot to fix up the class good job, here is the greatly reduced list of things that still could be changed:
  • Swiftness. Same problem as before but to a lesser extent, you should not be able to change another creatures critical hits, this part should be removed as the feature would be fine without it
  • Feather Dance of the Heart. Still is recharged after two long rests
  • Dive Attack can be changed to regaining the feature on a short rest as well as a long rest
I currently don't see any other problems, and that hopefully wraps up the class.--Blobby383b (talk) 23:56, 9 November 2017 (MST)

Done! I appreciate your help on my first class! :)

If I may throw in my proverbial two copper pieces, I think that the 1st level subclass features for Admiral and Marksman are a bit too strong. I would recommend making it so that you have to choose a limited number of weapons to get the bonus, being able to swap them out during a short or long rest. I think that this is a cool class, and thank you for reading this post!

Low damage?[edit]

Hey, I think the Aviator actually may have too low damage now. Since it does not get multiattack or any spells, it will lose a lot of power in the lategame, even in favor of its increased speed. It should probably get at least one Extra Attack at some point. Otherwise, the best way to play an Aviator is to multiclass.

Thanks for the heads-up! I'll see what I can do about that. :)

Saving Throws?[edit]

Multiple of the subclass abilities are missing DCs for their saves. They say certain creatures have to make a saving throw, but never list them. I was planning on using this class, but I do not know what those are intended to be. Thanks!

--Aurum (talk)

Oh, dang! I didn't even notice! I added a class DC for all saves. Thanks for pointing that out! :)

Question[edit]

Sky's Grace- so you add dex to initiative and dex saves twice? -otherwise, cool class Kermon (talk) 22:52, 11 February 2019 (MST)

As of right now, yes. I think I'm gonna change it to half of the dex mod. --EpicBoss99 (talk) 20:05, 12 February 2019 (MST)

Could this be a Subclass of Background?[edit]

This might make a good subclass for many classes sort of like the Arcane Mechanist (5e Subclass), or perhaps a crunchy background sort of like the Vampire (5e Background). Arquebus (talk) 16:05, 22 November 2020 (MST)
