Page Layout[edit]

I have laid out the page and set links to other indexes in a way that reflects the 2024 PHB and DMG. Various other things may be named or categorized differently. For example, magical items are now in the Treasure section of the For Dungeon Master's column; diseases are now "magical contagions"; feats are an integral part of the game now (instead of optional) so they've been pulled out of Character Options, etc. Marasmusine (talk) 16:59, 29 November 2024 (UTC)

5e'24 vs any other name[edit]

It might be a bit late but better now than later since category correction only gets harder... Do we want to keep the '24 version of this "edition" name, especially considering how much of this stuff will be dropping later? I know 5.5e isn't official.--Yanied (talk) 03:48, 30 November 2024 (UTC)

Putting my support behind 5.5e as well, it's the cleanest option. I likely ought to have mentioned that earlier, but as the saying goes, the best time to plant a tree was forty years ago and the second best time is now. --Nuke The Earth (talk) 03:52, 30 November 2024 (UTC)
Missed the start of this subcategory, so I'll crosspost—
My vote is for it to be called 5.5e because it fits with precedent, looks better, and frankly it's the proposed term that I think is most likely to be adopted by the community long-term. I also prefer the term 5.5e, and would like to think we still have enough sway in the community to set that example Salasay 04:05, 30 November 2024 (UTC)
I think we should list out all the names that we could use, maybe then one sticks better or works better. If you have more ideas just post it with your comment.

50Ann       example       Undead Beast (50Ann Creature)
6e       example       Undead Beast (6e Creature)
I think that 50yrs or 50Ann may be pretty fitting. Using 6e or One are terms that I think are to ambiguous. Maybe for this reason 5.5e may also not be terribly fitting. What does everyone else think? --Green Dragon (talk) 19:29, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
The apostrophe in "5e'24" is looks aesthetically bad to me, which I know is petty but it matters, darn it! "50yrs" and "50Ann" require a certain level of knowledge about the history of The Edition In Question to make sense--I, for one, didn't know the 50th anniversary had anything to do with it--so I think it would be confusing to new/casual D&D players. "One" parses oddly in context as "One (1) Creature" or "One (1) Class"--Yeah I know an Elf is "One Creature", but what about "Kobold Stack (Three Creatures)"?. Plus, "One D&D" it was only ever intended as a working title for the playtest material, rather than the final edition name, so I expect the name to be no more than a relic in the next year or so--5e itself used to be "D&D Next", and no one uses that name now. "2024" is okay, but I prefer the "5.5e" or "6e" convention. If I had to pay lip service to the "D&D 2024" name, I'd go with "5.24e", for instance "Elf (5.24e Race)", because if they cling to the "editionless One D&D" initiative and keep revising 5e instead of ever going to 6e, we can just increment up the year. But again, preference is still 5.5e. Salasay 23:11, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
After marinating in it for a while I'm strongly behind "5.24e". This acknowledges the year and that this is an increment over 5e while still providing virtually infinite iterations after that if necessary. It is also more cohesive than "5'24e", especially when paired with the other editions in the sidebar.
I expect a full 6e to happen some day and even WotC themselves barely seems to acknowledge this being the 50th anniversary. - Guy 00:01, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
As the person who initially pushed "5e'24", it's still my first pick. However, if it had to be changed, I consider "5.24e" decent enough to be my second pick. --ZarHakkar (talk) 03:49, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
as an anon idk if the opinion of this ip counts for anything but please change it to literally anything other than 5e'24, the apostrophe is so freaking awkward. 2601:285:4100:14B0:4C72:D11:7F70:FAC6 04:36, 10 December 2024 (UTC)
