Scaldera (5e Creature)
From D&D Wiki
Scaldera[edit]
Huge elemental, neutral evil Armor Class 16 (natural armor)
Saving Throws Str +8, Con +8 Stone Shell. Scaldera is covered in a shell of cooling magma formed into stone. The shell is destroyed if Scaldera takes 20 force or thunder damage at one time, reducing its AC to 12 and removing its resistance and immunity to bludgeoning, piercing and slashing damage. If Scaldera's shell is destroyed, it regrows at the end of Scaldera's next turn. Explosive Vulnerability. If Scaldera takes thunder damage from a bomb flower or other explosive it falls prone. Molten Aura. At the start of each of Scaldera's turns, each creature within 5 feet of it takes 5 (1d10) fire damage, and flammable objects in the aura that aren't being worn or carried ignite. A creature that touches Scaldera or hits it with a melee attack while within 5 feet of it takes 5 (1d10) fire damage unless Scaldera is prone. Weak Point. Attacks which specifically target Scaldera's eye bypass its damage resistance and immunity. Any attack roll made as a called shot, such as against this weak point, is made with disadvantage. If the attack does slashing damage, it additionally deals double damage. ACTIONSMultiattack. Scaldera makes two attacks: one with its bite and one with its slam. Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d8 + 5) piercing damage plus 11 (2d10) fire damage. Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 21 (3d10 + 5) bludgeoning damage plus 11 (2d10) fire damage. Boulder Roll. Scaldera moves 60 feet in a straight line. During this move, it can enter Large or smaller creatures' spaces, but it can't end the move in another creature's space. A creature whose space Scaldera enters must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 22 (4d10) bludgeoning damage and 11 (2d10) fire damage. On a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage. Fireball (Recharge 5-6). Scaldera exhales a fireball at a point it can see within 60 feet of it. Each creature in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on that point must make a DC 16 Dexterity saving throw, taking 28 (8d6) fire damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. The fire spreads around corners, and it ignites flammable objects in that area that aren't being worn or carried. REACTIONSBurn. If Scaldera suffers damage to its weak point, it engulfs itself in flames increasing the damage of Molten Aura by 5 (1d10) until the end of its next turn. |
Source This fearsome monster inhabits the deepest recesses of the Earth Temple. It can be categorized as a "Pyroclastic Fiend". Its body is completely covered in rock, but you can see its weak point, the eye, through the cracks in this outer shell. If you are able to remove parts of this creature's rocky shell, you will vastly increase your probability of success. |
