Scroll, legendary

This scroll smells strongly of the sea, and it is made of some sort of substance that cannot be torn, cut, burnt, or dissolved. It is inscribed with writing of a strange and unknowable language in ink that slowly, subtly moves of its own volition and creeps across the scroll. If you spend 24 hours over a period of 3 days or fewer studying the scroll, you gain knowledge of terrible things. Make a DC 15 Intelligence saving throw; on a failure, you take 6d6 psychic damage and are insane for 30 days. While insane, you can’t take actions, can’t understand what other creatures say, can’t read, and speak only in gibberish. A greater restoration spell cast on you ends this effect. On a successful save, you can use your action to read from the scroll and pronounce the words written on it. When you do so, a star spawn of Cthulhu appears in an unoccupied space within 120 feet of you. The star spawn is indifferent towards you, neither predisposed towards either helping you or harming you, and it is not under your control. Successfully summoning a star spawn destroys the scroll.

It is rumored that using these scrolls helps speed along the awakening of Cthulhu from his slumber, moderately reducing the time it will take for him to wake up, although this rumor cannot be proven.
