Plumazotl are great bird-like creatures of pure pluma, said to have been created by the greatest plumaweaver in history before he was smitten by Qotal for his misuse of his gift. Most plumazotl obsess over wonder, filling their solitary nests with trinkets gathered from their surroundings and fetishes formed from their innate magic as they gather all the juicy secrets in their immediate vicinity. It is for this reason that some adventurers seek them out, trading news of distant lands and exciting happenings for crucial information. Some humans hunt plumazotl for their feathers, which can be fashioned into all manner of forms through featherweaving, but for most the plumazotl is simply too fast, too hard to injure, and has too many spells at its disposal.
A plumazotl is created from two greater plumazotl engaging in a dazzling ritual in which one plucks a few feathers from the other, and the two arrange their combined feathers into the image of birds or humans before pouring their pluma into the image. The resulting plumazotl is roughly the size of a hummingbird, and quickly grows in size as it consumes feathers and pluma until it is roughly the size of a giant eagle. This growth can be greatly accelerated by consuming a pluma talisman.

Variant: Greater Plumazotl

A greater plumazotl has reached its maximum size, becoming much more physically powerful, and slightly more magically gifted. A greater plumazotl has a CR of 3 (700 XP), is Large, has 39 (6d10 + 6) hit points, and gains the following actions:

Multiattack. The plumazotl makes three attacks: one with its beak and two with its claws. In place of its beak, it can use Wing Attack.

Beak. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 11 (2d8 + 2) piercing damage.

Claws. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (2d4 + 2) slashing damage.

Wing Attack (Recharge 5-6). The plumazotl beats its wings. Each creature within 15 feet of the plumazotl must succeed on a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw or take 9 (2d6 + 2) bludgeoning damage and be knocked prone. The plumazotl can then fly up to 15 feet.
