Wondrous item, rare (requires attunement)

This magical item can come in shapes from a small pocket mirror to a large dressing mirror, as long as it remains a mirror. At first glance, it doesn't show reflections of creatures, only non-sentient objects. Casting the detect magic spell on it responds with a strong Divination aura. A DC 17 Intelligence (Arcana) check reveals its nature and usage:

  • If you ask the mirror a single question starting "What I would look like if I..." the mirror will show the reflection of you from a different timeline where the "If" condition you stated occurred. You might look completely different, or carry an important item which could be useful for your current objective. What you see is up to the DM's discretion. If you use the mirror in this way, it regains use of this effect at dawn.
  • If you ask the mirror a precise question "What if I were you?" the mirror will force your body to be exchanged with another you from a different timeline. You can resist this effect by succeeding on a DC 20 Wisdom saving throw. If you fail, willingly or not, your age, height, gender, class, subclass, race, background, and equipment are exchanged. Ultimately, your DM should decides what qualities of your character are changed, potentially employing a random method. Alternatively your DM can permit you making a different character, which retains your name, background, and alignment.
  • To change back you to your original body, you must wait at least 1 week for the mirror to recharge, and utter the words "What if I was to come back?" in front of the mirror. Your character changes back, your original traits and features are returned. Additionally, by speaking "What if I were you?" and "What if I was to come back?" you switch back between those forms, they will always have the same qualities each time you use the mirror. If the mirror is broken or destroyed, you can't change back until you restore it. To repair the mirror you must spend 2 days working in an alchemical laboratory and spend 250 gp on materials components, gems with reflective properties. Alternatively, you can also use the wish spell to return to your original form.

This item attunes to whoever uses it first. To change the attunement you must first cast the greater restoration spell on the mirror which breaks attunement with whoever is attuned to the item. Once attuned by a character, they may use the mirror by asking it a question to which it will respond.
