Largest of the Ophititanidae thescelosaurs, the kasktaur (Hylophotitan gigas "Giant forest titan") a terrestrial serpent drake and although far less heavy than a qotaur of the same length, still quite an impressive size with bulls reaching lengths of ten to twelve meters. Of the serpent drakes, it was they who were most often compared by Assembly naturalists to plateosaurus, although studies of such things as their hip configuration and later genetic studies show now they are in fact thescelosaurs that are merely convergent with the ancient sauropod ancestors. Kasktaur live in larger herds than most thescelosaurs and bulls are much more tolerant of each other outside the mating season, primarily because circling up and baring beak and claw is the only reliable defense against a zentuar for a creature with so little armor and such an exposed head and neck. Though kasktaur prefer to be high browsers, they will happily forage whatever is within range of their long necks, from shoots and reeds to occasional small mammals and birds eggs.
