Kanohi Mask (5e Equipment)

Wondrous item, rarity varies (major) (requires attunement) Kanohi masks are typically metallic, and come in many forms and colors. A kanohi mask can be doffed, donned, or switched out for another as an action. Powered by the Wearer. Kanohi masks are different from other magic items, in that they function by drawing energy from your body and focus. You have a pool of kanohi charges equal to your Constitution score + your Wisdom score. You can expend charges from this pool to activate the ability of a kanohi mask you are wearing, and regain all expended charges when you finish a long rest. A creature that doesn't have a pool size of at least 20 charges can't attune to a kanohi mask. You may attempt to activate a kanohi mask you don't have charges for. When you do so, you must succeed on a Constitution saving throw with the DC equal to 10 + the number of charges that would be spent or receive a level of exhaustion.

Kanohi Hau, Mask of Shielding

Wondrous item (kanohi mask), very rare

Forcefield Generation. As a bonus action, you can expend 5 kanohi charges to project a shimmering bubble of protective force that surrounds you. You have total cover from attacks and effects while this forcefield exists. It has 50 hit points, an AC of 10, resistance to all damage except force, and immunity to poison and psychic damage. The bubble requires your concentration and costs 1 kanohi charge at the start of each of your turns to maintain. When you pay this charge, you can pay additional charges to cause the bubble to regain hit points: 10 hit points per charge.

Kanohi Kaukau, Mask of Water Breathing

Wondrous item (kanohi mask), uncommon

The most notable design aspect of this mask is the transparent visor covering the user's eyes. While you wear this mask, you can see twice as far underwater than you would be able to unaided.

Water Breathing. As a bonus action, you can expend 3 kanohi charges to gain the ability to breathe underwater for 8 hours. While this ability is active, you lose the ability to breathe air. You can deactivate the mask's ability as a bonus action.

Kanohi Miru, Mask of Levitation

Wondrous item (kanohi mask), rare

Levitation. As a bonus action, you can expend 4 kanohi charges to become nearly weightless for 10 minutes. Your jump distance is quadrupled, and if you fall, you descend at a rate of 15 feet per round and take no damage from falling as you land. This weightlessness requires your concentration to maintain.

Kanohi Kakama, Mask of Speed

Wondrous item (kanohi mask), very rare

While you wear the mask of speed, your speed increases by 10 feet and you gain a +2 bonus to initiative.

Speed Boost. As a bonus action, you can expend 5 kanohi charges to greatly increase your speed for 1 minute. For that duration, you are considered under all effects of the haste spell, and suffer none of its drawbacks once it ends. This speed increase requires your concentration to maintain.

Kanohi Pakari, Mask of Strength

Wondrous item (kanohi mask), very rare

While you wear this mask, your Strength score becomes 20. If it was already 20 or higher, your Strength score instead increases by 2, to a maximum of 30.

Enduring Strength. When you finish a short rest, you can expend 5 kanohi charges to remove one level of exhaustion or end one effect currently reducing your Strength score.

Kanohi Akaku, Mask of X-Ray Vision

Wondrous item (kanohi mask), very rare

The most notable design aspect of this mask is the large, telescopic vision piece situated over one of the eyes. You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight. In conditions of clear visibility, you can make out details of even extremely distant creatures and objects as small as 2 feet across.

X-Ray Vision. As a bonus action, you can expend 5 kanohi charges to gain the ability to see through solid matter for 1 minute. To you, solid materials you chose appear transparent and don't prevent light from passing through them. Any thickness of lead blocks this vision.

Kanohi Huna, Mask of Concealment

Wondrous item (kanohi mask), very rare

Invisibility. As a bonus action, you can expend 5 kanohi charges to become invisible for 1 minute. Anything you are wearing or carrying becomes invisible as long as it stays on your person. While invisible, you still cast a shadow. This invisibility requires your concentration to maintain.

Kanohi Rau, Mask of Translation

Wondrous item (kanohi mask), rare

While you wear this mask, you understand all spoken and written language.

Kanohi Mahiki, Mask of Illusion

Wondrous item (kanohi mask), rare

Illusion Creation. As a bonus action, you can expend 4 kanohi charges to replicate the effects of one of the following spells using the mask: silent image, mirror image, or disguise self (also changes your voice). These effects don't require concentration, but you can only have one of them active at a time. You can dismiss any such effect freely.

Kanohi Komau, Mask of Mind Control

Wondrous item (kanohi mask), very rare

Mind Control. As a bonus action, you can expend 5 kanohi charges to replicate the effects of the dominate monster spell. Maintaining your control over the creature requires concentration.

Kanohi Ruru, Mask of Night Vision

Wondrous item (kanohi mask), rare

While you wear this mask, you can see up to 300 feet in dim light as if it were bright light, and darkness as if it were dim light.

As a bonus action, you can expend 4 kanohi charges to activate one of the mask's abilities.

Light Projection. The mask begins glowing, emitting bright light in a 60-foot cone and dim light for a further 60 feet beyond that in the direction you are facing for 1 hour.

Limited X-Ray. Until the end of your next turn, you can see through solid matter and objects as if they were transparent. This vision has a range of 15 feet. To you, solid objects within that radius appear transparent and don't prevent light from passing through them. The vision can penetrate 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, or up to 3 feet of wood or dirt. Thicker substances block the vision, as does a thin sheet of lead.

Kanohi Rode, Mask of Truth

Wondrous item (kanohi mask), very rare

True Senses. As a bonus action, you can expend 5 kanohi charges to activate the mask's ability for 10 minutes. Within this duration, you have truesight out to 120 ft., you automatically know if a creature is lying, and can see through both magical and nonmagical disguises.

Kanohi Olmak, Mask of Dimensional Gates

Wondrous item (kanohi mask), legendary

Open Dimensional Gate. As an action, you can expend 8 kanohi charges to open a portal in an unoccupied space you can see within 30 feet linking to a precise location elsewhere. The location can be on the same or an entirely different plane of existence. The portal is a circular opening, which you can make 5 to 20 feet in diameter. You can orient the portal in any direction you choose. The portal lasts for 1 minute, and the portal's destination is visible through it.

The portal has a front and a back on each plane where it appears. Travel through the portal is possible only by moving through its front. Anything that does so is instantly transported to the other plane, appearing in the unoccupied space nearest to the portal.

You can only have one portal open at a time, and can close any previously created portal freely on your turn.
