Hammer of Damnation (5e Equipment)
From D&D Wiki
Weapon (warhammer), legendary (requires attunement) This magical weapon gives a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls. This hammer was forged under the supervision of a necromancer. This gives the hammer the ability to steal and release the souls of the undead. It is capable of holding 20 souls or charges, and when found, has 1d8+2 souls already trapped in it. This hammer was designed with a special head that has two sides, one blunt end, and one spiked end. Whenever you attack, you attack with one side of the hammer and may use a bonus action to switch to the other. Blunt (deals bludgeoning damage)- When you hit a creature with this side, the soul energy trapped in the warhammer is released in a wave of ghastly energy, allowing you to expend one charge to gain additional effects. The target takes an additional 2d6 necrotic damage, and must make a DC 17 Constitution saving throw at the end of your turn if they are hit by this side. On a failure, the target has disadvantage on its next attack roll or saving throw until the start of your next turn. If you roll a natural 20 while using this side, the weapon expels a huge amount of energy from the souls. The target takes an additional 6d8 necrotic damage, and the hammer drains 5 charges, unless there is less in the hammer, in which case it falls to 0. When the hammer is at 0 charges, it will still have a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls. Spike (deals piercing damage)- When you hit a creature with this side, the vitality of the target is absorbed into the weapon, restoring one charge. If you roll a natural 20 while using this side you gain 5 charges and the spike sharply pierces the creature injecting them with necrotic energy and making them take 1d6 necrotic damage at the start of their turn for 1 minute or until they are healed from any source. A creature may not be affected by more than one instance of this effect at any time. The bonus 5 charges can exceed the max amount of 20, but must be used within 1 hour of being added. Any charges over 20 not used within one hour will be lost. Creatures with no souls, such as constructs and the undead, are not affected by the spike end of the hammer and do not give you any charges. However, they can still take the necrotic damage from the blunt side. |
