Design Note: This race is intended for the Mundus Dipathis Mechabutzia setting. It can be used in other settings: replace the engineering skill proficiency with proficiency in two sets of artisan's tools. The text was created in collaboration with OpenAI GPT-3.

Deflated Gummabust[edit]

A deflated gummabust is a member of that race that has permamently expelled most of its interior gas so that it can more easily explore the narrower passages of Mechabutzia. This process is a painful one, and deflated gummabusts are often treated as outsiders by the rest of their race.

The decision to expel their gas is an attempt to escape the oppression and suppression of their original race.

Physical Description[edit]

Deflated gummabusts are large, pale, lizard-like creatures. They have small, spiky ears, thin, reptile-like legs, and two large, oval-shaped, red, gas-filled bladders. Their gas-filled bodies are hard and smooth like that of a blister.

History[edit]

Gummabusts: An expansive belching, who, by tapping his foot, ignites a great burst of flame from which arises a noble screech. – Mundus Dipathis Mechabutzia Guidebook

The first gummabust colony visited Mechabutzia in the Fourth Age. They settled in The Orbiad, where they maintain facilities such as The Hypabyssatron, The Armory and The Orb Chamber.

Other gummabusts reside in The Heat Genoratorium. In the Gumganglon Order, gummabusts liberated the Utorium from the Harbringers, destroying the city in the process in a three-year siege.

What caused gummabusts to decide to deflate and explore Mechabutzia? Some choose to deflate themselves because their gummabusts are so large and heavy that walking becomes a laborious process. Others choose to deflate themselves in order to flee from the oppressive Gummabust race.

Society[edit]

Deflated gummabusts are not welcome among their own kind. The gummabusts see their fellow deflated gummabusts as weak and unable to make their own decisions.

Their society is structured, but there are many different tribes and clans. Most deflated gummabusts are nomadic, wandering from tribe to tribe in search of a new home.

As deflated gummabusts mature, they often set out on a journey of self-discovery to find a place that will accept them.

Personality[edit]

Eager to escape their past: Deflated gummabusts seek out others who are like them in hopes of finding a place where they can settle.

Anxiety of discovery: Deflated gummabusts fear discovery from the rest of the world. The larger a group of deflated gummabusts becomes, the more anxious they become.

Facing a grim reality: Deflated gummabusts know their time is short. Each time they deflate, they lose a part of their being.

Deflated gummabusts tend to be loud and boisterous. Their gummabust language is fast-paced and full of sound.

Unlike normal gummabusts, deflated gummabusts tend not to be aggressive, but they will defend themselves. If they feel threatened, they will let out a large amount of gas.

Gummabust Language[edit]

The Gummabust language is a simple language based on a root word system.

The gummabusts speak using an interesting system where each character represents many words that all start the same. The number of characters in a word determines the tense and other word attributes.

Deflated gummabusts speak with a deep, smooth voice. As their name implies, they are without much inflection since they are only able to use their internal pipes when speaking.

Gummabust Names[edit]

Gummabusts have only one name. In their own language, each letter of the alphabet has a meaning and a gummabust's name can tell you about them.

For example: Slim (for the intention of dry water), Ory (for the blade), Iro (for the eye of the light), Mirc (for the ear that hears), Quiz(for the hand of a blade), Wam (for the broken).
