Arcane Spear (5e Spell)
From D&D Wiki
|Casting time:||1 action|
|Components:||V, S, M (a staff which must either be magical or an arcane focus)|
You use magic to enhance and launch a staff, with enough force to pierce through a creature. Make a ranged spell attack against a target within range, dealing 4d8 piercing and 2d12 force damage on a hit. If there is another creature behind the target within 5 feet of it, use the same attack roll against it, dealing the same damage on a hit.
- If there is an object or a solid wall behind the target within 5 feet of it, it gets pinned to that wall or object on a hit, restraining it. It can use its action to make a Strength saving throw, ending the condition on itself and pulling the staff out on a success.
Effects of Differing Staves. Any staff that fulfills the material component requirements can be used for this spell, however, magical staves grant specific bonuses to the spell based on the power of the staff. At base level, these bonuses affect the ranged spell attack roll and the Strength check DC, but some properties of staves may confer more specific modifiers.
|Rare||+3||+1d12 force damage.|
|Very Rare||+4||+2d12 force damage.|
|Legendary||+5||+2d12 force damage.|
|Artifact||+5||+3d12 force damage. The force damage dealt by this spell becomes explosive, meaning if any die rolls its maximum value, it can be rerolled and added to the total damage.|
If the staff has the retributive strike property, there is a 50% chance that it activates when the staff impacts the creature or an object. You may attempt a DC 20 spellcasting ability check to control whether or not the property activates as a result of this spell.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the force damage increases by 1d12 for each spell slot above 3rd.
