5th-level Necromancy
Casting time: 1 action
Range: 25 feet
Components: V, S
Duration: Instant


You fire a ray of necrotic energy at a creature within range and attempt to drain its life away. If it fails a Constitution saving throw, it loses hit points equal to the maximum number of its hit dice multiplied by 1d4, if it succeeds, divide the end result in half. If the target's hit point maximum is reduced to 0 from this spell, the target dies. These hit points can only be restored at the end of a long rest or by the effect of a greater restoration spell or similar magic.
