Light and Darkness[edit]

Light and Darkness is third level campaign for Fifth edition Dungeons and Dragons that takes place in the Region of the Sun in Valden. This setting takes place in the lore of the Forgotten realms however I will use a lot of homebrew creatures and some pieces of lore may not be exactly accurate. Also I will be using the extra conditions from the rules section in the DM homebrew.

Legend of the Sun[edit]

There is a legend, known by few powerful religious factions, told on the walls of the Ancient´s fortresses. For any player to have known this legend they would have to roll a 25 on a religion check. Before the gods came to the world, history says the aboliths ruled the world. However there was something else. Something much more powerful. A creature without a name, stronger than a god. The people call it The Dark One. This thing ruled over the world and ruled like a tyrant over everything. Cults under aboliths formed in hope of protection against this creature. Then the gods came to Earth. They chose a champion whom grew to be known as the King of Paladins whom is the most powerful mortal to ever exist. He, with an army of 20,000 men fought the The Dark One. They were victorious in defeating it, thus bringing the world into an age of light.

Campaign Story[edit]

When the King of Paladins and his army of 15,000 men won their battle, they didn't actually kill the Dark One. He can't be killed, he can't even be weakened. They were able to seal him away, but he gets stronger as mortals in the world suffer and eventually he would break out of the chains they made for him. So they sealed him away in a piece of luminium and had power drawn away from him to billions of points covering the world each 50 miles away from the other, which would prevent him from getting too strong for approximately 10 million years. The area they trapped him in was the center of what is now the Region of the Sun. These people who now, are known as the Ancients lived here and made designed to keep malicious beings out, until they were slain by the armies of Valden. Which then leads to the modern day.

The first archmage and founder of the mage guild Arcadia elven Kabir Cerebos(may or may not mean big brain... almost) who became known as the First Archmage of the Arcadian Mage Guild ended up framing his death to study sources of high magical power. He ended up finding one of these power points where the Dark Ones power goes to. He sapped dark power from it to study its, corrupting and ability to morph the material plane. This sapping caused the prison of for the points of power to weaken and the seal broke releasing these Dark creature however the Dark one himself remains trapped. These dark powers gain sentience, becoming weaker versions of the Dark One, each attempting to consolidate power to destroy the world.

Dark Beasts[edit]

When this dark power was released from the power points, the power gains sentience and will become something I like to call Dark Beasts. There are 2 basic categories of Dark Beasts. Lesser Dark Beasts and Greater Dark beasts.

Lesser Dark Beasts spawn from the the cracked points of power that Kabir Cerebos sapped for power, and hundreds or even thousands would spawn from a point of power. These creatures have a relatively small amount and will posses a creature empowering it(6-8 times damage and health). Lesser Dark Beasts will have one main body and will surround themselves with creatures they lent some of their power to known as the corrupted (Corrupted have 1.5-2 times health and damage), which the Lesser Beast has complete control over and would use them for scouting, attacking, and protection. Corrupted and Lesser Dark Beats are immune to necrotic, have blindvision, and have the sunlight sensitivity trait.

Greater Dark Beasts are truly dangerous creatures. In the areas where the points of power was not cracked, when the seal broke all the power in the point was kept to one sentience. This being is so strong it doesn't need to possess a creature and will create its own hideous body. They will control each control an element of life or nature. These beings can control a large area and will turn it into a deadly landscape that the sunlight can't reach. In the Region of the Sun there are 8 Greater Dark Beasts.
