Constitution is one of the six ability scores.

Constitution measures health, stamina, and vital force.

Constitution Checks

A Constitution check can model any task relying on physical stamina or to push beyond your limits. Other possibilities include:

  • Long-distance running
  • Work for hours without rest
  • Stay awake
  • Resist hunger or thirst
  • Quaff an entire stein of ale in one go
  • Perform a day of hard labor

As the nature of endurance is often passive, Constitution checks are possibly the least common of the six abilities.

Constitution Saves

A Constitution save is made to prevent disease, poison, exhaustion, or another hazard that would sap your vitality or test your bodily endurance.

Exhaustion. When traveling in an extreme climate or working for long periods of time, at the end of each phase your narrator might call for a DC 10 Constitution save, or a higher DC when appropriate. On a failure you lose a Hit Dice, but if forced to lose one when you have none remaining, you die.

Constitution DC

Your Constitution DC equals: 8 + PB + Constitution modifier.

This DC is used by features that originate from your body's inner workings, such as a dragonborn's breath attack.

Attack and Damage Rolls

While no attacks normally add Constitution to the attack roll, when you attack with a blowgun you can add your Constitution modifier to the damage instead of another ability score.

Hit Points

Your Constitution modifier adds to your hit points, as is likely described under your class or in character creation.

If your Constitution modifier changes, your hit point maximum changes as well, as though you had the new modifier from the start.

Additionally, during a break you can roll Hit Dice to recover hit points, and your Constitution modifier is added to the result of each roll.

Holding Breath

You can hold your breath for a number of minutes equal to 1 + your Constitution modifier. After you run out of breath, you start Suffocating until you either die or breathe again.
