Wraith Blade (5e Equipment)
Weapon (captain sword), legendary (major (XGtE p. 135)) (requires attunement) The second-oldest known Captain's Sword, Wraith Blade, was made outside of the law. It was given to an extremely powerful necromancer by his master for exceptional work in raising a zombie horde to attack a prominent city. The master raised from the dead three of the blacksmiths that knew how to make a Captain's Sword and forced them to make the Wraith Blade. This magical longsword is a Captain Sword. This sword has been tainted with the pure evil of its first wielder. A creature that is neither good nor evil in alignment takes 2d6 necrotic damage upon trying to wield the sword. A good creature takes 4d6 necrotic damage. Either sort of creature takes the damage again each time it ends its turn holding or carrying the sword. If a creature has its hit points reduced to 0 while attempting to wield the sword, that creature’s soul is absorbed by it. Soul Reaver. Whenever you use it to reduce a creature to 0 hit points, the sword slays the creature and devours its soul, unless it is a construct or an undead. A creature whose soul has been devoured by Wraith Blade can’t be restored to life as long as the soul remains imprisoned. Up to three souls can be devoured and stored on the blade at any given time, and this weapon causes +1d6 necrotic damage for each soul stored on it. March of the Dead. While holding the sword, you can use an action to release 1 or more of its souls to cast one of the following spells from it: False Life (1 soul), Animate Dead (2 souls), or Danse Macabre (With a 6th-level slot, 3 souls). After using 3 souls in this property, you can’t use this property again until the next midnight. |
