Warforged, 5th Variant (5e Race)

Warforged, 5th Variant[edit]
Physical Description[edit]
While most warforged are unique enough in design that one could differentiate themselves from their other construct-kin, all warforged are at least slightly humanoid. Whether it be a humanoid physique, full humanoid facial features, or any other comparable humanoid feature, Warforged are recognizably humanoid. All warforged are made either through intricate mechanical design, powerful magical force, or through unknown means. Warforged, although they resemble unfeeling machines, feel pain and emotion just as any other creature would.
History[edit]
Every warforged possesses a different story of how they came into being, whether the details be slightly similar or entirely distinct. Due to this, warforged possess little to no shared history. The only real connecting factor in Warforged history is that seemingly no warforged have any knowledge of their creators. As warforged have no history of their creators or purpose, many will attempt to go out into the world in search of one. Those that find one are heralded for their fortune.
Society[edit]
Few warforged societies exist, but those that do are fiercely loyal to one another. As most warforged are without parents, they find family in their friends or, more rarely, in other warforged. Warforged are a rare race, so the likelihood of two warforged meeting is even more rare, but a thing to be cherished nonetheless. Almost all warforged that meet eachother become immediate friends, either through some ingrained programming or by the fact that no one understands a warforged better than another warforged.
Warforged Names[edit]
Warforged names are chosen very loosely. Most warforged refer to themselves as their serial number, a series of numbers that is engraved on them somewhere on their body, or will adopt a new name if they find it be cumbersome to say. Warforged do not differentiate names by gender.
Warforged Traits[edit]
Humanoid constructs made of a variety of materials and given a variety of forms
Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 1
Age. Age is often unimportant to a warforged, as no warforged show any signs of deterioration due to age. The maximum lifespan of a warforged remains a mystery, but many believe they may be capable of living indefinitely. You are immune to magical aging effects.
Alignment. The alignment of the warforged changes drastically depending on the history of the warforged you meet. Warforged tend toward nearly every alignment.
Size. Similar to humans, warforged vary widely in height and build. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Your movement speed is 30 feet.
Mark of Manufacturing. You are immune to the poisoned condition and non-magical disease, and you are resistant to poison damage. Additionally, you don't need to eat, drink, breathe, or sleep, and magic can't put you to sleep.
Repair Sequence. When you take a long rest, you must spend at least six hours in an inactive, motionless state, rather than sleeping. In this state, you appear inert, but it doesn’t render you unconscious, and you can see and hear as normal.
Living Armor. Instead of donning or doffing armor as normal, you must integrate the armor you wish to wear into your body. You can only don armor you are proficient in. To integrate a set of armor into your body, you must incorporate it into your body over the course of 1 hour, during which you must remain in contact with the armor. To remove this integrated armor, you must spend 1 hour removing it in the same fashion. You can rest while integrating or removing armor in this way. While your alive, your integrated armor can’t be removed from your body against your will. Additionally, you gain a +1 bonus to your armor class.
Embedded Components. Your body not only functions as living armor, but also as a living weapon. You are capable of storing up to ten (10) objects as embedded components throughout your body. Two objects can be stored within each of your arms, two objects can be stored within each of your legs, and two objects can be stored within your torso. These objects, when not in use, are concealed within you and thus are not visible. Affixing or removing an embedded component takes a bonus action. As for what objects can function as embedded components, refer to the following list:
- Any weapon that has the one-handed or versatile property
- Any tool that isn’t a mount or vehicle
- Any small piece of equipment
- Any small magic Item
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice.
Material Specialization. Instead of subraces, a warforged possesses material specializations that determine what material you are constructed from. You may choose from Metallic Form, Holtspawn, Stonework, Bone Golem, Dwarven Construct, Hellish Contraption, and Celestial Machine.
Model Number. In addition to your material specialization, you may choose a model number that further specifies the form and function of your warforged. You may choose from Envoy, Skirmisher, Warform, and Custom Order.
Metallic Form[edit]
The most typical material that warforged are forged from; simple metal. Your body, and all its interior components, are made from an ordinary metal. Your body is covered in a layer of sleek metal plating that resembles human musculature. Underneath this plating is a series of intricate mechanisms that allow you to function. They are confusing to even the most talented artificers, and seemingly too complex to futz with.
Ability Score Increase. One ability score of your choice increases by 1
Fabricated Invulnerability. You may choose to be resistant to one type of damage other than psychic.
Holtspawn[edit]
A lesser known variation of the typical warforged. Your body is made from wood and vegetation, and held together with an otherworldly magical energy. You possess a layer of wood and bark that covers this writhing, arcane energy; although there are parts in which the energy peaks out from behind cracked bark or loose wood.
Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom score increases by 1
Ligneous Creation. You are resistant to poison damage and immune to magical disease.
Guardian of the Forest. You know the druidcraft cantrip. Once you reach 3rd level, you can cast speak with animals as a 1st level spell once. You must finish a short rest or long rest to cast the spell again with this trait. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
Stonework[edit]
A more widely known variation of the average warforged. Your body is made of an ordinary stone, and your body is either roughly hewn from it or is a wonderful sculpture that mimics the human physique in nearly every way. This stone either grinds against each other to move, as if the stone itself has willed itself into locomotion, or an arcane energy allows the stone to float to and from positions.
Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 1
Stationary Monument. When hiding, you may decide to attempt to impersonate a statue. Doing so changes the context of your hiding attempt, instead changing your attempt into a Deception check that you make with advantage. Any creature that is attempting to perceive or find you during this must make an Insight check contested against your Deception check. If you succeed, the creatures assume you to be a part of the decor and also a perfectly normal statue. If you fail, the creatures understand you are alive and that you are actively attempting to deceive them.
Mana Bombardment. As an action, you may overload the magic that holds you together to damage those around you. By expending an action and all of your movement speed, you force all creatures within 30 feet of you to make a Dexterity saving throw (The DC of this Saving Throw is equal to 8 + your Constitution modifier and proficiency bonus). A creature takes 2d6 force damage on a failed save, and half as much on a successful one. The damage increases to 4d6 at 8th level, 6d6 at 12th, and 8d6 at 18th level. You may perform this action an amount of times equal to your proficiency bonus.
Bone Golem[edit]
A less pleasant, and very rare, variation of the common Warforged. Your body is made of bones that have been welded together with an unpleasant magical energy. The most typical of these kinds of Warforged have a smoke-like black energy that winds through and moves their bones to and from, while others have a seemingly smaller exoskeleton underneath the initial “plating” skeleton. Most Bone Golem warforged would be nigh indistinguishable from a regular skeleton, if it were not for their various layers of bone that functions almost as natural armor.
Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 1
Creature of Death. You are resistant to necrotic damage.
Necrotic Mending. You can restore any limb after it has been detached or destroyed by simply finding a suitable replacement, or the original limb, and then using your action to attach it. You may also remove and replace your limbs as you wish. Additionally, you may, as an action, collapse your form into a pile of bones. While you remain motionless, you are indistinguishable from a normal pile of bones. In this state, you are prone and your movement speed is reduced to 0.
Dwarven Construct[edit]
A very rare kind of Warforged. Your body is made of several different pieces, finely cut stone, various fine metals for decoration, and likely a few jewels or runic carvings. You likely are built in the image of an artisan Dwarven piece, so your body is made mostly of sharp right-angles, with an almost Art Deco style in mind.
Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence score increases by 1
Short and Stout. Your size category is small, and your movement speed is not reduced by wearing heavy armor.
Dwarven Programming. Whenever you make an History check related to the origin of stonework, you are considered proficient in the History skill and add double your proficiency bonus on the check. Additionally, you can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were dim light. Moreover, you can speak, read, and write Dwarvish.
Exquisite Runework. You know the mending, magic stone, and light cantrip. Once you reach 3rd level, you can cast identify as a 1st level spell once. You must finish a short rest or long rest to cast the spell again with this trait. Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
Hellish Contraption[edit]
One of the more rare versions of the warforged; if not the most rare. Your body is made primarily of a rough, black cast iron that is dotted with various small spikes and chains. Most warforged possess an initial layer of armor, but this contraption does not. Instead you almost resemble a fire pit in construction, as your body is made of thin pieces of intricate metal with room for where a raging fire should be. The smoothness and humanity of the warforged is instead replaced with an unmistakable sinister air and threatening aura. Instead of genius cogwork or magical innerworkings, this warforged seems to be powered by a blazing red fire that permeates most of this wicked contraption.
Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score increases by 1
Infernal Lineage. You are resistant to fire damage. Additionally, you can speak, read, and write in Infernal.
Hellfire. Underneath the plating and inner workings of yourself is a blazing fire that you have total control over. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were dim light, and you can choose to exude an aura of bright light within 30 feet of you and dim light within 60 feet of you.
Celestial Machine[edit]
One of the more rare versions of the warforged; if not the most rare. Your body is made of an inhumanly smooth, lightweight gold metal and your connective joints are made of a shiny grey metal. Various parts of your body are seemingly made of a fine glass, and underneath this glass there is a bright radiant light that always shines; but can be dimmed if you so wish.
Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom score increases by 1
Boon of the Gods. You are resistant to radiant damage. Additionally, you can speak, read, and write Common and Celestial. Moreover, you have a 30 foot fly speed.
Heavenly Machinations. Additionally, you know the light and sacred flame cantrip. Once you reach 3rd level, you can cast bless as a 1st level spell once. You must finish a short rest or long rest to cast the spell again with this trait. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
M-0 "Envoy"[edit]
As an envoy, you were designed with a certain specialized function in mind. You might be an assassin, a healer, or an entertainer, to name a few possibilities. Envoys are the rarest of the warforged subraces, as they most typically belong to warforgeds that have found a purpose.
Ability Score Increase. One ability score of your choice increases by 1
Specialized Design. You gain one skill proficiency, one tool proficiency of your choice, and you can speak, read, and write in one additional language of your choice.
Integrated Tool. Choose one tool that you’re proficient with. This tool is integrated into your body, and you double your proficiency bonus for any ability checks made with it. This feature does not count against your maximum amount of embedded components.
Built to Serve (Optional). You may choose this instead of integrated tool, if you so wish. You gain two additional appendages. These appendages function as arms, but are severely weaker than your regular arms. These additional appendages cannot independently hold shields, items with the heavy, or two-handed properties, or items that weigh more than 15 pounds.
M-1 "Skirmisher"[edit]
Skirmishers are smaller and thinner than their other warforged brethren. They are made to be scouts or assassins that outmaneuver their enemies and move at quick speeds. You are lean and designed for speed.
Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 1
Small Frame. Your movement speed increases by 15 feet
Infiltrator. When you are traveling alone for an extended period of time (one hour or more), you can move stealthily at a normal pace.
M-2 "Warform"[edit]
Warforms are the largest of the warforged ever found. It is hotly debated whether larger ones exist, but no concrete proof has been discovered yet. Most warforms are outfitted with advanced locomotion, as well as devastating weaponry.
Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 1
Advanced Hydraulics. You are proficient in unarmed strikes. When you make an unarmed strike, your unarmed strike damage increases by one die value.
Powerful Build. You count as one size category larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.
Destroyer Component (Optional). Instead of taking powerful build, you may take this feature instead. Choose one weapon you are proficient with. You may integrate this tool into your body, and you double your proficiency bonus for any attack rolls made with it. This integrated weapon does count against your maximum amount of embedded components, and takes up all the slots of the area you place it in. Weapons integrated in this way do not need to have the one-handed or versatile property, and they do not need to be a small item.
Custom Order[edit]
This warforged is of a custom build and clearly made for a very specific purpose.
Ability Score Increase. One ability score of your choice increases by 1
Specialized Creation. You may choose two other features from the other model numbers and you gain them. You cannot choose optional features from other model numbers. Your choice of features are your racial traits.
