Vitae (5e Equipment)
From D&D Wiki
Cost: — Vitae, also known as aetheric fluid, is an alchemical substance linked to life. In its distilled form, it is a brightly-glowing bluish-white liquid that hums with energy. Vitae is naturally secreted into the bloodstream in tiny amounts from the brain of a sentient creature undergoing great stress, and is obtained from extracting and distilling it from said blood. The greater a creature's capacity for suffering, the more vitae that can be collected from them, although methods must be often taken care not to "burn out" a creature that vitae is being extracted from. Vitae has quite a few potent applications, none of which are completely without risk. It can be used as an alchemical reagent with life-extending and transformative capabilities, a potent power source, a rare and costly material component for spells, or even be refined further into pure positive energy. Despite its vast potential, the nature of its extraction tends to restrict its usage to only creatures evil and intelligent enough to acquire it. Extracting Vitae from a Creature. A creature proficient in torturer's tools can extract up to 1 pint of vitae-infused blood (doubled for every size category above Medium) from a restrained or incapacitated conscious creature over a period of 8 hours. The vitae-infused blood must then be processed by a creature proficient in alchemist's supplies, taking only 10 minutes per pint. A pint of vitae-infused blood will contain a number of ounces of vitae according to the following formula: Amount of vitae (in fl oz.) = 1/10 * the combined Intelligence and Charisma score of the tortured creature Vitae in almost always every case can only be extracted from living creatures native to the Material Plane. Undead, constructs, plants, oozes, fiends, celestials, and elementals do not secrete vitae. |
