Public Edits[edit]

Hello Slyvari, I hope this finds you in good health. While I understand that pages may feel like a private matter, the fact of this wiki is that (almost) all pages are 1.) public, and 2.) subject to the same standards of balance and quality. While certain things may feel like "your creations" (I personally have my own pocketful of pages), they're still part of the much larger wiki. If you want something to be your personal page for nobody to edit or view, consider creating a page with a name along the lines of User:Sylvari Mesmer/Name of Page. This keeps it off the main wiki, makes others editing without permission a debatably ban-able offense, and sounds more like what you're looking for. I would also appreciate if we communicated this way instead of via e-mail. --Ref3rence (talk) 22:22, 27 August 2020 (MDT)

Like I said earlier, I would much rather communicate here than through email. I didn't realize that you reduced the damage from 3d8, that's my bad and I'll remove the stub, but I do take issue with your reasoning. Cost does not equal difficulty to get, since a handful of classes allow for a player to start with "any 1 martial weapon", so cost doesn't really matter all that much in terms of balance.--Ref3rence (talk) 23:01, 27 August 2020 (MDT)
You can edit your talk page either through the edit tab at the top of the page or at the top of this discussion section (next to where it says Public Edits) and you can sign your edits with four tildes (~) or with the signature button between italics and links at the top of the editing window. --Ref3rence (talk) 23:10, 27 August 2020 (MDT)
Just clarifying here; editing another user's userpage is not a bannable offense by itself, but is just considered extremely rude unless you're doing something like fixing links, formatting, etc. — Geodude Chatmod.png (talk | contribs | email)‎‎ . . 12:21, 28 August 2020 (MDT)

Thanks Sylvari Mesmer (talk) 23:11, 27 August 2020 (MDT)

I would like to know how to make my pages look better. Sylvari Mesmer (talk) 23:29, 27 August 2020 (MDT)

I know it sounds like a dumb question, but I want to make my pages look more proffesional. Sylvari Mesmer (talk) 23:35, 27 August 2020 (MDT)

Not a dumb question, if anything it's one of the bigger questions every editor asks. The major flaw in your current writing (from my point of view) is that you focus more on your intent for the item than the item itself. Certainly make sure the mechanics are obvious, but don't be afraid to flesh out the idea of the object/creature/race/class as an entity inside the game. In other words, treat the page as how it would be in-game, rather than from your (the writer's) point of view. Using fancier wording can help, but its better to be descriptive with words you're "good at" (if that makes any sense, idk) than bogging the reader down with big/too many words. Other than that, you're already over the biggest hurdle of figuring out proper formatting and whatnot. --Ref3rence (talk) 23:42, 27 August 2020 (MDT)

Alright that all makes sense. Thanks. Its real late. Im gonna work on stuff tomorrow. Thanks for all the tips and stuff Ref3rence. Sylvari Mesmer (talk) 23:45, 27 August 2020 (MDT)

No worries! I love helping new editors come into their own. I look forward to what you'll make in the future. --Ref3rence (talk) 23:47, 27 August 2020 (MDT)

Thanks. See you later Sylvari Mesmer (talk) 23:48, 27 August 2020 (MDT)

I would like help with the new class I am creating. It is supposed to be someone who controls gas in a certain way, but this is my first time making a class on here. Could I get some help please? Races[edit]

So I took a gander at a couple of the race pages you made and I can't help but wonder if they should be creatures instead. They hardly have anything to work with as a race, barely any history or society to help build a player's experience, and the traits are a bit of a fluffy mess opposed to usable mechanics. I suggest you take a look through the 5e Race Design Guide to better improve your race-making. You can also look through the help portal in general to understand formatting and tricks to make pages look better. Happy brewing --Yanied (talk) 11:37, 24 December 2020 (MST)

First of all, delete the wood-handed. I don't even remember what that is. Second of all, I get this a lot and I never have the ideas to improve my creations. So, I just can barely think of anything to improve this stuff. I have looked at the design guide and I still can't think of more things to add. I don't know what to do ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Sylvari Mesmer (talk) 18:08, 24 December 2020 (MST)

Well, try to envision the race in a more wholesome sense. As a crucial piece in an organic image, rather than a singular one. They don't just exist in a vacuum after all. They have stories, legends and powers from their lineage. Looking through official content may help stir up some juices.--Yanied (talk) 20:28, 24 December 2020 (MST)
