Magic Items[edit]
Please stop altering the rarities of magic items. They don't need a number in the rarity. It breaks the system and goes against the official magic items. SirSprinkles (talk) 11:24, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
r/ How does it break the system or go against the official magic items? My edits made the sorting system actually work, as opposed to before when Legendary was after common, etc.
- You should actually learn this wiki a bit more before you decide to make hundreds of transformative edits without even asking for a second opinion. - Guy (talk) 11:51, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
Enlighten me then
- First, you can sign your comments by using four tildes (~~~~), which makes it easier for others to know who said what.
- To "enlighten" you, as requested: The Template:5e Magic Item used on all of those pages depends on that line being specifically one of six (or so) values so the page is categorized into Category:Common or Category:Artifact or whatever category is appropriate. Automatically generated lists on this wiki will only be filled by pages in the relevant categories. The lists take a while to update to reflect current pages, but if your edits were left as-is then all of those lists would be visibly blank.
- Second is a much smaller issue. Regardless, pages on this wiki strive to appear in the same format as is official source material—as much as is reasonable. If you crack open the DMG, you'll notice all those magic items list rarities such as "legendary" and not "4-Legendary."
- Third, it's frankly very rude in any wiki community—and especially on a creative wiki such as this—to just decide to change hundreds of pages without consulting, asking, or even mentioning it to anyone. Such an act is more or less the equivalent of going onto Wikipedia and changing hundreds of information boxes to pink instead of white because you personally think it looks better. It's blatantly rude, arrogant, and reflects very poorly on you as a contributor to the wiki in question.
- Finally, if you're that concerned about magic items being in the right "rarity order," it would be much more feasible and less time-consuming to make automated lists for each type of rarity (common, uncommon, etc). Ironically, such automated lists would be impossible if the fraudulent edits were left as they were, as these lists wouldn't be able to sort by rarity category. - Guy (talk) 12:38, 26 April 2017 (UTC)
- I would point out that if you simply click the word "Rarity" above the list in, for instance, Magic Weapons or Wondrous Items, with the triangles by it? That sorts the list according to rarity. The problem you thought you were fixing is not, in fact, there. For the pages that are long enough for it to sufficiently pose a problem, that problem has been solved.
