Arcane Ring Discussion[edit]
Hey hobogre, thanks for helping with the item vs just putting a templet on top without explaining why. I did however make some edits because I did not want the ring attuned In case someone picked it up, and thought about multiclassing. And it wasn't restricted to certain srd classes so a class like boxer, soul knife etc. any class that has a point feature I wanted this ring to be utilized by. I'm still newer to the formatting here be elsewhere so thanks for helping.
- Hey Justsomedndplayers! It's no problem! I thought the idea of the Arcane Ring was pretty cool, and I didn't want to see the page get deleted or anything, so I figured it'd be easiest to just try and fix some of the problems as quickly as possible. I didn't even think about the idea of letting this item be usable for other non-SRD classes, so props to you for thinking about that; don't worry about being new to the formatting of the wiki, you'll get used to it through a lot of trial and error and/or by looking at other peoples' works! (That's how I did at least, haha)
- When I saw this comment, I did notice your thoughts on the requirement of attunement for an item like this and I wanted to address that. I think your idea of someone picking it up and not having to attune to it when they multiclassed has good intentions, but there are a couple of problems with it. You can thank Guy for helping me think about attunement and magical charges like this: what if a sorcerer with this ring simply hands it to the monk, soulknife, boxer, etc.? Then that player gets points to continue the fight and the original sorcerer still has the sorcerer points that they can use even before they ran out of the ring's points!
- I think your idea of not having attunement has good intentions, but some negative side effects that allow the abilities of the Arcane Ring to be abused by a player who can work their way around its description. In my personal opinion, I think attunement should still be required so that this situation doesn't happen, but it doesn't have to be limited to a specific class. Instead, in the description, it can be described that a player whose class does not use a points system gains no benefit from attuning to this ring. How's that sound to you? --Hobogre (talk) 22:39, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
