This needs to be added to the correct LA page (LA 0 Races). Would you like to do this or would you prefer I add it? --Green Dragon 23:35, 19 November 2007 (MST)

Mist and Magic[edit]

In FFXII the Viera are sensitive to the mist, which is sorta like the magical energy in the world of D&D.

So I was thinking that they would have an ability that functions like a minor detect magic that can only see auras and when they come into contact with more auras than they can handle (this would be either a set number or a number based on constitution, which I personally like the latter) they enter a rage like state. (this is seen in the game when Fran is overcome by to much mist and she freaks out and goes on a rampage)

This could be the ability:

Mist Sensitive (Su): The viera are very sensitive to magical auras and can see them at all times, as the spell Detect Magic but only the presence or absence of magical auras. When the viera is within 60ft of an aura that is to strong to handle, caster level is five levels or higher of the viera, he/she must attempt a Will save DC (10 + the caster level of the aura - your character level) or enter a rage like state, this Will save must be made every minute that the viera stays within 60ft of the aura.

While in this state the viera gains a +2 bonus to Strength, a +2 bonus to Consitution, and a +1 morale bonus on Will saves, but he/she takes a –2 penalty to Armor Class. A viera cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills (except for Balance, Escape Artist, Intimidate, and Ride), the Concentration skill, or any abilities that require patience or concentration, nor can he/she cast spells or activate magic items that require a command word, a spell trigger (such as a wand), or spell completion (such as a scroll) to function. He/she can use any feat he has except Combat Expertise, item creation feats, and metamagic feats. A fit of rage lasts for as long as the viera is in range of the aura.

At the end of this state, if the viera was in it for more than five rounds, the viera loses the rage modifiers and restrictions and becomes fatigued (–2 penalty to Strength, –2 penalty to Dexterity, can’t charge or run) for the duration of the current encounter or one minute after, which ever is shorter.

I would like any feed back about this thought from anyone, pro or con.

About the Type[edit]

Would the viera be a Monstrous Humanoid or would they be just Humanoid?

My reasoning behind this question is that usually Monstrous implies monster like features, examples are the centaur and medusa, where as a viera only has bunny ears. And even lizardfolk with their reptilian appearance are still just Humanoid (Reptilian). ~Sarrow 21:47, 11 September 2008 (MDT)

Yeah, for type, it should be something like Humanoid (Viera) and not Monstrous Humanoid. Also, I'll add that Mist Sensitive ability in when I get to it, but I'll probably trim down some of the wording a bit for clarity purposes, and I imagine the second paragraph was taken right from a barbarian's rage, so I'll probably leave that one intact. --Ganteka 15:06, 13 September 2008 (MDT)
Yeah, that was the only problem, the length was to much. As for the rage thing yeah, it was, LOL, just changed some of the wording. -Sarrow 15:22, 13 September 2008 (MDT)
