Talk:The Shadowmaster (5e Subclass)

The verbiage of control darkness is super confusing. "You are able to change the shape of all that's dark for 1 hour, you can restrain up to 10 targets forcing them to make a strength saving throw or block any any attacks excluding Radiant attacks."

What does this mean? The targets are restrained and do not take damage? I can make targets either block damage OR restrain targets (using it as a support spell?) Also for a 3rd level spell, to block "attacks" outside of radiant for an entire hour is insanely OP if that IS the intent of the spell.

Love the class overall, but that spell is kinda bad, not to mention the wording is so poor you can't really understand the intent of it. I would offer a suggestion:

Control Darkness

-transmutation 3rd level-

1 action; V,S; self (60ft line); Duration 1 hour

You are able to change the shape of all that's dark for 1 hour. On casting this spell you can choose one of the following effects:

You can restrain a number of targets equal to your charisma modifier, forcing them to make a strength saving throw against your spell save DC or be restrained.

Your allies are shielded by darkness! Instead of a line, pick a number of targets within 30 feet of you equal to your charisma modifier. These targets now have a +3 to their AC for the next hour

I have implemented your suggestion. --Green Dragon (talk) 11:31, 4 January 2023 (MST)
