FAQ[edit]
Q: The Neural Cloud trait says you're considered a humanoid for spells that target humanoids, and you give hold person as an example, but what about healing spells like cure wounds or healing word?
A: No. The wording I used there is on purpose. Spells like cure wounds state that the spell "has no effect on undead or constructs" while spells like hold person specify "Choose a humanoid that you can see within range." Basically, Tactical Dolls are only considered to be humanoids for the purposes of spells and effects that specify the target must be a humanoid.
Q: Wait, if that's the case, how do I recover hit points in combat?
A: That's a great question. I specifically didn't state any method for that, to give the DM a little bit of liberty on the matter; they could either rule that there is no way for you to recover hit points in the heat of combat, and that you must wait until a short or long rest, or they could work out a means of doing it with alternative spells. I'd recommend looking at the evnir race in the latter case, it has a great way of using mending as an alternative. Basically, work it out with the DM.
Q: But what about revival? It says spells that return a dead creature to life won't work, so is a Tactical Doll dead-dead as soon as it drops to 0 hit points?
A: Not exactly. Spells that return a dead creature to life don't work on Tactical Dolls, yes. When a Tactical Doll is reduced to 0 hit points and falls unconscious, the death saving throws you still have to roll could be considered checking to see just how badly damaged your body is. If you fail three times, then your body is so badly damaged that it's completely irreparable. If you succeed three times, then though your Tactical Doll's body can no longer operate properly due to the damage suffered, the body is still intact enough that it can be fixed. If you're "stable" due to succeeding your death saves, then you can be repaired by someone else using a T-Doll repair kit to fix you up again. If not, then don't forget that you've still got your neural core to work with. As long as the neural core isn't destroyed, then your party can still try and salvage it out of your body, and then commission an empty (or "dummy") body to install it into as a replacement; this would serve as a Tactical Doll's alternative to revival spells.
Q: But, true resurrection?
A: ...Maybe. Ask your DM. Even if they say no, don't lose hope; try and think of other spells you might reasonably have access to instead if you hypothetically have access to true resurrection and what you might be able to try and use them for.
Q: How about the spell animate dead? That one says it targets the corpse of a humanoid, so it would work for a Tactical Doll wreckage, right?
A: Ah. Well. Hmm... See, like all things in life, there will be exceptions. In other words, consider undead raising spells the exception to the previous humanoid rule, okay? Or, I mean, unless your DM feels like designing a homebrew creature stat block for an "Animated Tactical Doll Wreckage" or something; I don't know, ask them or whatever, I guess.
Q: Regenerate doesn't say it has no effect on undead or constructs, will that work?
A: I'd be personally inclined against allowing it, but ask your DM; it's up to them in this case, not me.

Unfrequent Questions[edit]
A good few things uncovered.
- Whats the deal with all the “no ability modifiers to damage rolls”? I can sorta understand it for the SMG(which is more concerning than not already), but it seems kinda pointless. Wouldn’t being able to shoot better allow you to be more effective with bullets? Like, if you’re not that great at aiming(+0 modifier), even if you do hit, it probably won’t be too effective, but someone really good with guns(+5 modifier) would certainly know where to put the bullets, making them more effective, right?
- How do you gain the imprinted weapon? What happens if you lose it?
- Wouldn’t it just be easier to put a price on the T-Doll kit instead of wasting a bunch of space saying “make it up yourself”? They can do that anyways if they don’t like it.
Just a few things I noticed. --SwankyPants (talk) 16:23, 15 April 2021 (MDT)
- Some fair questions, I'll try and answer them as best I can.
- Q: Whats the deal with all the “no ability modifiers to damage rolls”? I can sorta understand it for the SMG(which is more concerning than not already), but it seems kinda pointless. Wouldn’t being able to shoot better allow you to be more effective with bullets? Like, if you’re not that great at aiming(+0 modifier), even if you do hit, it probably won’t be too effective, but someone really good with guns(+5 modifier) would certainly know where to put the bullets, making them more effective, right?
- A: Mainly for balancing purposes, honestly. The race is already toeing the balance line as it is, and if I allowed ability modifiers to the damage rolls, it'd just make the race even stronger. Besides, a DM I frequently play with has included firearms in his games a few times, and every time he's used his own take where the firearms don't have the ability modifier on damage because, according to him, "a bullet is a bullet, you can't make it hit any harder by being more dexterous." I can see your point, definitely, but I also understand where the DM comes from, and the need for balance really ends up pushing my decision in his favor.
- Q: How do you gain the imprinted weapon? What happens if you lose it?
- A: It's assumed the imprinted weapon is given to the doll by their creator as part of the process of their creation, since as their History notes, the imprinting is an important stabilizer for their Neural Cloud. On that note, as for losing the weapon... While the imprint data about using such a weapon remains, in the event that they do lose the weapon, since it's also stated they form a lifetime bond with it, it's extremely likely for them to become more nervous and insecure.
- Q: Wouldn’t it just be easier to put a price on the T-Doll kit instead of wasting a bunch of space saying “make it up yourself”? They can do that anyways if they don’t like it.
- A: It could be. I really just grabbed that part from one of the Warforged variants on this wiki. And anyway, if it's likely that DM's may dislike a price I put on it, it just seems to be that it'd be faster to leave it up to them in the first place.
- Thanks for your interest in this race. If you're unsatisfied by anything in my answers, feel free to point it out and I'll try to address those concerns as well. -- Alice-chan (talk) 16:41, 15 April 2021 (MDT)
RF racial feature.[edit]
The RF model with starting equipment only has imprint as a racial feature. Night vision or something vision related?
- So, the reason why the RF with starting equipment only has the Imprint is basically because the rifle equipment is straight-up that powerful. Not joking, the rifle equipment on its own was ruled to add over 4 Musicus points to the RF subrace (at least by my own ability to judge it based on the Musicus guidelines). The main reason the primary Musicus score is 6.5 in the first place is almost single-handedly due to the RF Imprint alone (for comparison, the RF equipment is technically better than a Longbow since it has higher range increments and a larger base damage, it's actually a little ridiculous if I'm being frank). Of course, feel free to bring it up with your DM and see if they'll allow you to add some form of Darkvision to the RF with equipment if you think it needs a little more, oomph for racial features, but I personally don't feel comfortable adding anything to the published race on this wiki. -- Alice-chan (talk) 15:21, 9 December 2024 (UTC)
