Naming Clarifications[edit]

I recently completed Environments (Soul Society Supplement) and realized that I had a few more things that needed to be clarified than I thought. First, which translation are we using? For instance, the official Viz manga and anime translation refers to the hollow-slaying organization as soul reapers, while many fan translations simply convert it into English characters as shinigami. While the Viz translation is more official, I don't think it works as well as Bleach's terms have an interesting split between Japanese among reapers, Spanish among hollows, German among Quincy, and English in odd corners like fullbringers and bounts. It ultimately comes down to a matter of preference, but as I don't really consider myself the primary contributor I don't feel comfortable determining that preference.--Ref3rence (talk) 22:19, 16 February 2024 (MST)

Hi, first of all thanks for the previous bleach class, i really liked the mechanics there were on said class. As for the naming, i planned on using viz translation, however it seems like it's better to just use the fan translations as it helps to show the diversity around bleach's naming.-- Xandelicious (talk)

Bestiary Clarifications[edit]

I'm kinda confused on the current structure of the bestiary, since most important characters can travel to most dimensions. Wouldn't it make more sense to instead have separate pages for hollows, reapers, Quincy, other high-spec humans, and other? That way things like hollows wouldn't be listed twice and, at least in my opinion, it would be slightly easier to navigate.--Ref3rence (talk) 22:19, 16 February 2024 (MST)

Those are valid points, i guess it is pretty confusing at the moment. I will change it for better navigation, thank you for the suggestion.--Xandelicious (talk)

CR Clarification[edit]

Currently, the strongest non-Menos (CR 1/2, equivalent to a 2nd level player) would lose against a polar bear (CR 2, equivalent to four 2nd level players) every time, which doesn't really line up to me while rewatching the first arc, where even a new-born hollow can blow holes through buildings and throw around BoS Ichigo (who himself can easily throw around three CR 1/2 thugs). Even pre-Fullbring Chad could tank a ~50 lbs. I-beam (5d6/18 bludgeoning damage by weight) and get up without serious injury, putting him at 3rd level if we give him a d12 hit die, while Bulbous G (who I'd categorize as an unimpressive hollow) would have killed him if he didn't awaken his Fullbring. I've recently been considering the application of PECR, and I think a fair solution could be to differentiate between "boss" creatures like gillians that are intended to be comparable to a party of 4 and "non-boss" creatures that are equivalent to players of the same CR, thus allowing for easily-balancing group battles and 1v1 situations present in most of the series. This would also nerf the strongest animal players are likely to run into down to a PECR 5 elephant, about where I'd consider most starting reapers and weak hollows.--Ref3rence (talk) 22:19, 16 February 2024 (MST)

Hello again, thank you for pointing out the problems of the bestiary. However, we won't be using player equivalent CR as it simply doesn't appeal to us like normal CR. The current hollows are based on the sheets of the animal they represent + the features of being a level 2 hollow. The class isn't out yet, so i can see how the current sheets look underwhelming. What i'm going to do to solve this issue is increasing them to level 3 and add one damage tier to their attacks, such as turning a d6 into a d8. Thanks again for the feedback.--Xandelicious (talk)
Fair enough on not using PECR, though I feel like basic hollows should still be at least CR 4/5 to be comparable/superior to an elephant. The design philosophy of starting with a beast also kinda confuses me since hollows start as humans and generally don't bear specific resemblance, so it would make more sense to build a hollow player to a certain level and then apply CR calculations to it, but I recognize that idea is entrenched in my own design philosophies. Either way, this has given me a ton of ideas, so I plan on restoring Bleach (5e Campaign Setting), so thank you!--Ref3rence (talk) 11:09, 17 February 2024 (MST)
