Talk:Slender (5e Race)
The ironic thing is, many of the DMS I've presented this to actually deem it not the worst thing out there and, in fact, quite playable —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 2a02:c7f:9087:3000:f134:9a91:90dc:5092 (talk • contribs) . Please sign your posts.
- I'm glad to hear that. I did make it to be playable. The AF tag is because it is... well, definitely not something which fits as a serious character at all settings (in fact, most settings probably). But it is, in fact, playable. Some AF races are actually balanced; but they are too funny as a concept to be non-AF.--Yanied (talk) 12:55, 28 June 2021 (MDT)
Your welcome! Personally, the only changes I'd really actually make would be to list a creature type (I'd personally go with fey, cus personal reasons), maybe add in the idea that it doesn't need to eat or drink (since no mouth) and say the madness would be proficiency bonus per long rest. Though, honestly, that's my personal opinion, honestly its quite an interesting concept and if it was actually able to be applied to some dnd world's, it'd actually be quite interesting (even if you've got to retool it, making him a gangly figure in a knight-like armour)--—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 2a02:c7f:9087:3000:f134:9a91:90dc:5092 (talk • contribs) . - The fey thing is an interesting idea since there are theories of them being forest guardians. They just feel more like aberrations to me since they mess with your mentes. As for their consumption, I'm not sure if they need to eat or not honestly (I thought they did, just in a secretive, horrific way). And yeah, proficiency based usage is a good call, given the UA of dragonborn's breath. As for the application to dnd, I did try to make the lore less specific to the Midwest where it started and tried to add some dnd elements to it (like Shadowfell). It should be fairly versatile to fit if needed.--Yanied (talk) 11:43, 30 June 2021 (MDT)
- Honestly, abberation works just as well, especially considering how elder brains function, I suppose I was taking a bit too much inspiration from real life fey stories, but abberation also works quite well especially considering their entire mythos is that they're unknown, alot like the slenderman mythos itself, honestly it might be a good idea to have them be a hybrid of Fey/abberation, like the UA Reborn. As for how it'd eat...I'm spitballing here but maybe a mechanic where it feeds on the psychic anguish of the madness it makes, needing no other sustenance? I'd imagine it'd make the madness mechanic in of itself a bit more evened out since it's the only thing you could consume, otherwise acting like a UA reborn? If I'm overstepping any bounds, let me know I'm kinda new to dandwiki—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 92.40.191.40 (talk • contribs) . Please sign your posts.
- If you do that though, I personally think that advancing to indefinite madness might be best avoided since that would probably provide indefinite nutrition which kinda makes it a moot point—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 2a02:c7f:9087:3000:f134:9a91:90dc:5092 (talk • contribs) . - These are all good points. My only worry is keeping the playability at the moment despite being AF. But the consumption of psychic or mental material sounds interesting. Maybe that would be a passive madness inducing ability, thus making you a hassle to be around.--Yanied (talk) 20:21, 30 June 2021 (MDT)

- I'd imagine, depending on you viewpoint, that it'd either be passive towards humanoids and be directed/take an actikn towards other creature types (as the Slenderman Mythos does have him affect video cameras and sometimes animals) or it'd just have its own strange effect on each creature type. Honestly, I suppose it depends on how much you want to flesh the madness ability out—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 2a02:c7f:9087:3000:f134:9a91:90dc:5092 (talk • contribs) . - Alright, although I'd advise letting it be done a bit more often so you have more than three shots at feeding every 24 hours.
