Recommendations for Balance and Formatting within the Class[edit]

I developed this talking section for any constructive feedback for the class that would assist in balancing its playability for a campaign as well as D&Dwiki formatting. Please feel free to provide any input; I will take everything into consideration and will definitely appreciate it. --Saintly Blue (talk) 07:08, 15 April 2021 (MDT)

Recommendations for Balancing the Class[edit]

Formatting Recommendations[edit]

"insert good-aligned god"? --SwankyPants (talk) 20:59, 20 March 2021 (MDT)

Good question- these designations indicate that this class can be applied to any campaign world, allowing the GM or player to choose the god the Order is founded under. --Saintly Blue (talk) 20:24, 22 March 2021 (EST)

Well sure, but everything else about the lore for this class seems so incredibly specific, but then a few names were removed. If they wanted to use this with any setting/god, and the page specifically listed certain ones, they could just change the names out. Just seems like an odd choice, overall. --SwankyPants (talk) 18:43, 22 March 2021 (MDT)
Good points; I'll make that change. It will be easier to understand when naming a single deity/setting and indicate at the beginning that it can be applied others. Saves on space and typing too ^^ ----Saintly Blue (talk) 21:26, 22 March 2021 (EST)

Influences for the Class of Shield of the Order of Cheasuene[edit]

I wanted to take some time to give thanks to the influences in creating this class; your inspiration was amazing and gave me motivation to complete this class. --Saintly Blue (talk) 07:03, 15 April 2021 (MDT)

Prime Guardian (5e)[edit]

I LOVE this class! When I came across it, I found its concept amazing! To be able to dual wield shields for defense and offense was something I have always wanted to try as a player character. Thank you to the author for the inspiration you gave; your formatting also helped me get started with this class as well, so thank you for that! --Saintly Blue (talk) 07:03, 15 April 2021 (MDT)

Paladin (2E/AD&D)[edit]

I never had the chance to play this class when Advanced D&D was in it's prime because I could never get the rolls for the prerequisites, but a lot of the concepts in the class inspired me to develop some of the Order's intricacies and class abilities. --Saintly Blue (talk) 07:03, 15 April 2021 (MDT)

Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson[edit]

The Wheel of Time is one of my favorite series of books and was of some inspiration in the concepts, skills, and titles related to the Order of Cheasuene. I loved the concept of channeling the One Power and considered applying this notion to divine energy of the gods. The concept of a Mortal Conduit is a reflection of Aes Sedai and Asha 'man within the series. At the end of this class, I also discuss a concept of Cloister of Shields, which is influenced by the action of "linking" within the Wheel of time. The Wheel of Time also provides the concept of women with more power and control over the world, and I wanted to add this concept to this class. --Saintly Blue (talk) 07:03, 15 April 2021 (MDT)

Forgotten Realms[edit]

Though I prefer the setting of Greyhawk, I mostly play within the Forgotten Realms Campaign setting. I chose the god of Helm for obvious reasons. This class, though, can be applied to any campaign setting and one god within it. --Saintly Blue (talk) 07:03, 15 April 2021 (MDT)

Subclasses[edit]

Hey I saw your class and really liked the idea of it, would you be open to me adding some subclass ideas? if you dislike them youre fully able to remove them or if you never intended for any subclass types, thats okay too. Im not really onto par with your great flavor texts but, some ideas I had --Artif (talk) 22:50, 25 September 2021 (MDT)

Path of the Safeguard[edit]

Summonable Shield

At level one you gain the ability to summon a stationary shield within a 60 feet radius. This bonus action costs 1 point from the Mortal Conduit Pool. The shield acts as 3/4 cover for creatures standing behind it. The shield has an AC of 16, 1d4 hitpoints per Shield Level (Constant number, roll them with your normal level up rolls) and may be destroyed. At level 3, you may have 2 shields summoned at a time, 5 (3 Shields), 9 (4 Shields). You may also bounce spells off these shields to your dm's discretion.

Chains of Restraint

At 6th level, You can connect your Summoned shields with a magical chain with 2 points from the Mortal Conduit Pool. Any creature that walks past this chain must make a Constitution save, Constitution Save DC (8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom Modifier), or be restained for 2 turns. If you connect 3 or more shields into a shape (i.e. Triangle if there is 3) Any creature within must make a Constitution save or be restrained, as well as take 1d10 bludgeoning on a failed save.

Protector summon

At 10th level, you may "enchant" a creature of your choosing (cannot be yourself) and assign them a summoned shield. This reduces your maximum amount of summoned shields by 1. This is a concentration. The creature assigned the shield gains +2 to their AC and may be used as a conduit for any of the shield related spells offered by this subclass. This does not offer 3/4 cover

Reflection of Faith

at 16th level, you may use a full round action to charge all of your active shields with 10 points from the Mortal Conduit Pool. Each shield turns to face the nearest enemy within 30 feet. Anyone standing behind the shields no longer gains the benefits of 3/4 cover if it turns away from them. A bright light flashes from each shield towards the enemy aimed at, a 30 ft by 5ft line is gleamed towards them. Each creature hit by the beams must make a Dexterity save Dexterity Save DC (8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom Modifier). The beam does 3d12 damage on a failed save, or half on a success. If hit by multiple beams, you must make multiple Dexterity saves.

I havent really thought of a second subclass, but maybe something where you could add passives to the dual shields you have equipped? kinda like runes
