Talk:Shawn Spellblade (5e Creature)
From D&D Wiki
- Mini Update
- As much as I wanted invulnerability to be part of Shawn's spell list, the spell originally didn't seem to be worth taking at all due to the fact that any hit against him would require a DC 10 concentration check to maintain concentration, not to mention all the other ways a creature can be bested outside of damage such as Power Words, Charms, etc. Except it turns out this is a lie, the hit isn't what causes concentration checks, the damage does. This means a creature concentrating on Invulnerability will never make concentration checks as a result of damage, although the other problems still apply. While counterspell can be outplayed because of Shawn's subtle spell metamagic, other spells can still shut it down, or make Shawn a non-threat in other ways. The same problem persists with true polymorph and other 9th-level spells that aren't instant effects though, so it's far easier to consider. True Polymorph is probably better overall, but not accurate to the character. Since you get limited spells, I chose this instead. --Supersmily5 (talk) 00:18, 22 January 2020 (MST)
