Talk:Ray of Light (5e Spell)
From D&D Wiki
This seems kind of underpowered. Maybe change it to 4d6 damage?

- It's a 1st level spell? Marasmusine (talk) 11:11, 3 July 2017 (MDT)
- It's for a cleric, so it shouldn't deal as much as a wizard evocation, and radiant is a useful damage type. Marasmusine (talk) 11:14, 3 July 2017 (MDT)
Ok. I didn't realise cleric cantrips typically dealt less damage, but it seems you're right. --AngelsAndAarakocra (talk) 11:33, 3 July 2017 (MDT)
Guiding bolt is a hit/miss spell, and on average does 14 damage. Chromatic orb is a hit/miss spell, and on average does 13 ½ damage.
As it is currently written, this is not a hit/miss spell, but a "save halves damage" spell; in other words, it does guaranteed damage. As my previous edit implied, a save-or-half-damage spell shouldn't be dealing as much damage as a hit/miss spell of the same level, let alone more, and page the DMG makes that pretty clear. - Guy 19:09, 14 May 2019 (MDT)
