Creative Proficiencies[edit]

I really enjoy getting to dabble in creating items, something the D&D RAW barely touches. Would you consider having...

  • An Intelligence (Mechanics) proficiency to gauge how well a creature understands complex machinery and measure its ability to create or repair something of mechanical complexity?
  • A Dexterity (Crafting) proficiency to gauge how well or how quickly a creature is able to craft simple, mundane items like arrows, simple tools, kits, and the like?
  • A Strength (Smithing) proficiency to gauge how well a creature is able to create or repair armor, weapons, or the like, or to judge the quality of an item manufactured or repaired at a blacksmith?
  • An Intelligence/Wisdom (Enchanting) proficiency to see if a creature can temporarily or permanently infuse an item with some magical power? You'd have to make a pretty significant enchanting system if you wanted it to be something more than giving the item a +1 to attack.
  • An Intelligence (Alchemy) proficiency to gauge how well a creature is able to cook meals with special effects, craft potions or poisons, and discern the non-magical effects of food, potions, and poisons? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 50.24.119.76 (talk). Please sign your posts.
Oh, sure. I intend to add an Engineering skill which I think would cover most of those. Alchemy might be better covered by the Medicine skill.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do it, but I want the Skills with Different Abilities "Variant Rule" to be more involved in PSR. This might mean fewer skills, like combining Acrobatics and Athletics.
I have in mind a very basic system for more crafting guidance than 5e's rules provide, which could be built upon. - Guy 02:03, 16 March 2024 (MDT)
