It's easy to forget anyone pick up a cantrip like this without even needing to multiclass.

Currently, this is completely overpowered in the hands of a monk or anyone with Extra Attack. It adds at least 4d6 damage per turn by 5th level, let alone the 16d6 or more per round at 20th level, yet costs only one bonus action. Even if it only dealt extra damage once per turn, as levels increase that's still an insane damage increase for anyone who already has strong attacks (like a rogue) and unlike green-flame blade it doesn't even require your action—hell, it even stacks with green-flame blade at present.

I'm not sure how to resolve this without completely changing what the spell does. - Guy 20:22, 5 May 2022 (MDT)

Oh, so like a paladin smite but nerfed a bit. Hmm. I'm still a bit iffy on the fact a martial without a good use for their bonus action can get essentially free extra damage, but, it's definitely more reasonable like this. Seems like a good change to me. - Guy 21:45, 5 May 2022 (MDT)
Maybe removing the scaling of this cantrip could fix this issue, by lessening the free extra damage. Anastacio (talk) 22:35, 5 May 2022 (MDT)
