Talk:Medabot (5e Class)

On the race portion:

  • Base race is
  • ASI = +2
  • Size, Small = -1
  • Speed, 20-35 = -1—+0.5
  • Medabot construction should be replaced with the trait properly detailing construct types from the anarmor race, which is worth 1.5 points. It comes with the mendable trait for healing balance, which is 0.5, so +2 total
  • Composite character is a variable trait since it depends on how good the class is compared to any other class it would take.
Total for base is 3.5

Now for the subs:

  • Kuwagata: ASI (2) + goblin nimble escape (~1.5) = 3.5
  • Kabuto: ASI (2) + 2/3s of the sharpshooter feat (~2) = 4
  • Tortoise: ASI (2) + ??? (depends on the damage in class. Should be stronger than dragonborn breath maybe, so like a 1.5 at least) = 3.5
  • Jellyfish: ASI (2) + ??? (depends on the damage in class. Should be stronger than dragonborn breath maybe, so like a 1.5 at least) = 3.5
  • Bear: ASI (2) + spellcasting (1.5)**=3.5
    • This needs fixing possibly since race traits don't get usage based on modifiers. That should be a class thing really.
  • Phoenix: ASI (2) + fire immunity (TOO MUCH) + relentless endurance (1) = too strong. You already would get poison immunity as a construct.
  • Scorpion: ASI (2) + acid immunity (wouldn't be so bad alone, but again, you get two immunities, so no) + bugbear reach (1) = Two immunities is too much
  • Cat: ASI (2) + skill (0.5) + melee finesse parts (~0.5) = 2
  • Mermaid: ASI (2) + skill (0.5) + bonus action heal parts in class (~1.5) = 4
  • Queen: ASI (2) + skill (0.5) + charisma to heal (~1.5) = 4
  • Knight: ASI (2) + WOAH THAT AC BOOST WITH NO LIMIT OR DURATION = Too strong
  • King: ASI (2) + skill (0.5) + charisma sub to all attack and damage??! = Too strong. Replacing scores for attacks and such is a class feature kind of thing
  • Angel: ASI (2) + converting all attacks to radiant damage (~2)= 4
  • Rabbit: ASI (2) + skill (0.5) + bonus action time parts in class (~1.5) = 4
  • Mouse: ASI (2) + blindsight and darkvision (too much) + long rest radar (~1) = homebrew races with blindsight usually are blind outside that radius. And they don't get darkvision with it, because it should be one or the other at the race level. Having blindsight negates darkvision's benefit when they have the same distance too.
  • Chameleon: ASI (2) + skill (0.5) + per long rest invisibility (~1) = 3.5

Overall, quite a few balance problems with some subraces, as shown above. There is also the funkiness in the fact this is designed to be a composite class, so some of the scores don't work without calculating the class' capabilities. Also some wording, grammar and typical capitalization dinks here and there. It's certainly interesting to see a composite class with so much synergy with the race, but I do wonder if this is perhaps out of water in the 5e system as a result.--Yanied (talk) 13:57, 9 January 2021 (MST)

Changes[edit]

Following some feedback, the following changes have been made to balance the race and the class itself.

Race Changes

  • Reduced the Constitution to +1 from the base Race.
  • Changed Medabot Construction to be more in line with other Construct races, adding Mendable as a part of that.
  • Reworded the Bear Medal's feature for better clarification
  • Phoenix Medal now only has Fire Resistance
  • Scorpion Medal now only has Acid Resistance
  • Added a duration to the Knight Medal's feature. (Forgot to add it there my bad.)
  • Reworded the King Medal feature to only function with Melee Medaparts.
  • Removed Blindsight from the Mouse Medal
  • Clarified the duration of Chameleon Medal's feature.

Class Changes

  • Buffed up the damage dies of Flow/Fire, Flow/Acid, Shock, and Gravity Medaparts.
  • Buffed up the damage die of Bomb for Head Medaparts only.
  • Added additional effects to both Flow/Acid and Flow/Fire.
  • Reworked Medabot Training and made it replace the 6th and 14th Levels.
  • Changed some features of Medaparts to align with the changes made in Medabot Training.
  • Changed Medawatch in such the process takes a lengthy amount of time.
  • Gave Overdrive more uses per long rest.
  • Changed Medalorian Legacy to be more akin to the Barbarian's capstone

Once again, more feedback is welcome. --DonMafia (talk) 8:18 PM, 10 January 2021 (GMT + 8)

The changes on the race are good. Other than the capitalization and linkage needs, the largest problem I see remaining is the resistances, coupled with an immunity. I should have specified perhaps that races don't get immunity *or* resistance to more than one damage type. So since constructs already get the poison immunity, additional fire or acid resistance is overdoing it. My suggestion is maybe to have those resistances come in at a later level (like 5th maybe), or nerf it to only give advantage or something on saving throws which deal that damage type.--Yanied (talk) 10:52, 10 January 2021 (MST)
