Talk:Manx (5e Race)

I did make some edits. I now realize that 40ft movement speed is a bit exiecive so I lowerd it and I did also lower the dark visoin a bit. The ASI thing I don't see what's wrong with that. The Greed trait the reason why I put that in was because I lost my players handbook so I googled it and my handbook is still gone so I made it a homebrew trait. I fixed what I think is all of your requirements I also changed the wording on some stuff and I just realized being able to spam the appearance change lik a cantrip is to over powered so I made it so you need to take a long rest before you can use it again. I also made it so you can only appearance shift to something thats your same size and you gain no "special ability's" from the thing you appearance shift to. Assasins tools is just how I worded it I can't think of anything else to call it. For lizard eyes what do you mean "wiki links"

Oh you can just add any questions you have to below my message so it is easier to see that you replied. Assassins tools can be the name of the trait, but what it should actually list is all the weapons that fall under it as proficiencies. It is a bit strange since tools and weapons in 5e are distinct. As for wiki links, things like ability scores and skills should be linked to SRD for reference. I'll add some.--Yanied (talk) 11:49, 20 July 2024 (MDT)

There is a reason why they have appearance changing I frogot to add it in but now I did so that problems fixed

  • +4 ASi, especially with a +3 to DEX (the "god stat" of 5e) is VERY strong. Take note that not many official races even have a +2, +2, and NONE have a +3, +1 ASI.
  • The speed being 35 and the flavor being sneaky is kind of weird. Why does being sneaky mean you move faster? If anything, you just have proficiency in stealth.
  • Ultra lowlight vision doesn't exist in 5e. You'll have to define it mechanically if you want it here. The wording should also be using the standardized trait from official.
  • Greed is VERY loose of a ribbon, which is why it is easily abusable. You basically can bypass all need for insight checks to break deception, interpreted in the simplest way.
  • Appearance misconception does not have any constraints on their form and what they can be. See changeling for an example of wording. This also allows you to change yourself an unlimited amount of times, which is a bit ridiculous for a race. Races generally do not gain trait improvements over 5th level, unless it is dice, like dragonborn breath. The wording is also confusing because it says they can shift into their "main form" infinitely even when they can't change themselves infinitely? Does that mean they can get out of a forced polymorph or something? Needs a lot of work to make it scaled to changeling, considering this race also gets more than changeling.
  • The trait for Assassins Persian should better define exactly what weapons you are prof in. See dwarf for wording example.--Yanied (talk) 19:53, 9 July 2024 (MDT)

Per Review Request[edit]

The fluff honestly could still use some work. There is also wording problems with grammar ("there" where it should be "their," eg) and stuff like darkvision should be using standard wording.

On balance:

  • the ASIs are now in line, which is good
  • speed of 35 is fine as a buffed baseline
  • lizard eyes just needs wording clean up and wiki links
  • Assassins precision needs rewriting. "Assassins tools" aren't an actual group of items. All the weapons listed in parentheses should just be written as weapon proficiencies a la official dwarf proficiencies.
  • Greed looks okay, assuming that its just the proficiency in insight, which is better defined a trait than before
  • The appearance trait is still in need of wording refinement and definition. " they can appearance shift" doesn't tell us how they can actually change their appearance. See how changeling handles this wording, or even a spell like disguise self, which is altered in the firbolg's traits. This is necessary since it could define what forms you can actually take (can you turn into a mouse or only humanoids? eg). And based on that, it can be much more powerful than changeling or equivalent. Given how the race traits have pared back a bit, I think it might be okay to give it changeling's ability, but scaled to PB since changeling has literally nothing else.--Yanied (talk) 14:26, 19 July 2024 (MDT)
