Talk:Leviathan (5e Race)
From D&D Wiki
Hello! This is my first ever Race and generaly adition to the Homebrew community, I wish some of you can enjoy using this race as much as I enjoyed making it. But please, as I said earlier, its my first ever race; so feel free to add some small fluff and correct some hyperlink/english errors. In case of bigger differences like balancing and new ideas, I'd love to be messaged first so we can talk about it a bit more. Thanks for reading ----Davigotero
Balancing/New additions.[edit]
Please feel free to leave opinions below, we all need constructive construtism! ----Davigotero
This was covered by the(now removed) balance tag, and I'm sorry that was the way this was brought to your attention, but the built-in demiplane is weird, especially for a race. Like, this sorta thing is equivalent to a 8th level spell, or a couple uncommon items. While not cripplingly unbalanced(like many other races that get tagged), it's still not great.
Onto the more unbalanced stuff. Tidal Control is either ridiculous or worthless. If it's based on constitution modifier, then you can grapple and kill someone in like three turns. If it's score, then you'll never manage to keep someone grappled for over a minute.
Hunter's Lunge is kinda messy, and should probably just be the Orc's(not half) Aggresive trait. Not exactly balance but it's still my reccomendation.
The +1 from subraces seems like a needless extra attached to them, bringing them to +2/+1/+1 and all.
I've got more which I'm putting below.--SwankyPants (talk) 15:23, 12 August 2021 (MDT)
Thanks for the feedback, I've removed the Demiplane before even finishing the rest of the stuff, it was a neat concept on the fluff side but I noticed how it would be very op. I really enjoy the idea of changing the lunge into the Orc's passive and ill try to balance Tidal Control tomorrow. As said before thanks for the feedback, ill try to make everything as good as possible the fastest I can!

General Comments[edit]
This section is dedicated to non technical opinions, smaller questions, ETC...
Traits generally stick to mechanics, and nothing else. Having stuff like "trying to go near gives them an immense sense of dread" or "and you can eat raw meat" is severely out of place. Reverse situation with the skill proficiency in the subrace descriptions. --SwankyPants (talk) 15:23, 12 August 2021 (MDT)
