Talk:Hush (5e Equipment)
From D&D Wiki
Okay, so here's the deal. I know people like RWBY eh? The wiki could benefit from this. I also know that a weapon that doubles as a shield is OP as hell, to my current limited knowledge. So my idea is to revise it, removing some of the mind boggling properties and description, skyrocket the price, and add a potential 1d2 damage reduction or +1 ac. Both of which are borderline broken, the former far less. So here is my hope. If someone finds this too broken, please make it do damage reduction. Why? It would make sense with what the weapon is. It should have some shield related thing, right? - Hauptmann Burner (talk) 8:18, 3/24/21 (MST)
- Seeing how bonkers this is, it should probably just be a magic item. Easier to explain/balance traits. --SwankyPants (talk) 09:20, 24 March 2021 (MDT)
- I'm inclined to agree. I thought of another solution, but this might as well fully transition it to a magic weapon. Why not make it take on the properties of a shield, whilst making it only usable in place of a shield? I.E. A class that can wield shields can instead choose to wield this weapon, that would be equal to or lesser than the effectiveness of an average shield and double as a weapon?-Hauptmann Burner (talk) 8:27, 3/24/21 (MST)
- I dunno, I’ve never seen the show so I don’t know the specifics of how the thing works. If you want “weapon that doubles as a shield”, I recommend taking a look at the Anchor (5e Equipment) page, it sorta covers that concept well enough. I’ve seen tiny bits and pieces of the show, so I assume it transforms, so you could use something like the Threaded Cane (5e Equipment) page as a baseline. I think there was other trick weapons that do it better, but I can’t find them right now. Good luck with whatever you decide to do with this thing, man. --SwankyPants (talk) 09:39, 24 March 2021 (MDT)
- In my (probably) very stupid opinion, I think this should definitely be mechanically changed significantly. Maybe have it so you get a +1 bonus to AC as a reaction if you didn't use it as a weapon attack on your turn? Maybe open it as a bonus action to get a +1 to AC? I really don't know how to fix this. I do know this, though- this weapon has the Light and Finesse properties, making it ridiculously powerful for dual-wielding. A d8 damage die is much more than any other light weapon, and the fact that it can be used as a shield makes it ridiculously powerful. My opinion would be remove Light and possibly Finesse as well, and make it so you can either use the shield property or the weapon property on a turn but not both. That's just my very bad opinion though. --MarshDASavage (talk) 18:44, 24 March 2021 (MDT)
- The way I see it, this is basically just a light rapier which gives you an extra shield hand. I don’t see it as that big of a deal, anyways. It could be compared to that animated shield, but that can be done with anything, this forces you to use the weapon part too. It could be bumped to rare, but I don’t think it’s too bad. --SwankyPants (talk) 18:52, 24 March 2021 (MDT)
- I just realized that I am a complete idiot and this was classified as a magic item. I thought it was a normal weapon based on the formatting. I'm just a complete idiot. Yeah, since it is a magic weapon, it is not super unbalanced like it was, especially considering how it's a rare item. I do still think it is very powerful, but for a magic item, it's not that bad. --MarshDASavage (talk) 06:30, 25 March 2021 (MDT)
