Talk:Grave Walker (5e Subclass)
From D&D Wiki
The techniques in this subclass all have issues[edit]
I'm not even going to get started about the subclass itself, but these are the notes I've prepared on the techniques themselves:
- Execution's "Hit Streak"; this feature also just straightup lets you instantly kill something
- Impact makes reference to enemies that are blocked by "Twin Soul," when no such ability exists
- Strike From Above's "exceptional Str/Dex/Con rules" (unspecified)
- Wraith Swiftness making reference to the subclass apparently having access to a Wraith, and this move costs 1 "wraith fire" every turn it's used
- Detonate deals 8d6 unspecified damage to an unspecified target at 3rd level when something something fire?
- Wraith Stun says the Grave Walker has a "partnered wraith" and the move can "open an enemy up for execution"
- Dominate Beast makes no effort to describe how you dominate the beast, just that it obeys all commands
- Last Chance is just a mess
- Interrogate "delves into the enemy's mind"; what this does is not specified
- Critical Strikes can increase the Hit Streak, and for some reason are noted as also applying to Wraith Daggers
- Lethal Last Chance deals "lethal damage" when Last Chance succeeds
- Wraith Dagger automatically hits and staggers the target unless there is a physical wall in the way, or if there are "exceptional Str/Dex/Con rules"
- Brutalize implies the Grave Walker can sneak up on an enemy and instantly kill them but does not specify how this triggers
- Shadow Strike again making reference to the never-specified Wraith Fire resource
- Pin in Place uses round counting and makes reference to Wraith Arrow, which doesn't exist
- Wraith Streak can be activated only when the Hit Streak is "fully charged"
- Stealth Drain causes "guaranteed drain" on proc and instantly kills a victim within 3 failed saves
- Beast Hunter can "counter" attacking Beasts, even though these techniques can only be activated when you make an attack yourself
- Swift Finisher allows Execution to work against creatures suffering from Stunned or Prone as a bonus action, even though you can only activate a technique as part of making an attack
- Vault Stun lets the user make a "flurry attack" that is allegedly described under Wraith Stun
- Brace of Daggers deals extra damage to "fleeing enemies"
- Shoulder Charge can "damage shields" and does "impact" damage on a hit
- Lethal Shadow Strike lets what I presume is a teleportation attack "instantly kill enemies"
- Wraith Blast is reliant upon the user knowing one of two other specific techniques, otherwise it does absolutely nothing
- Combat Drain lets the Grave Walker "perform a drain as a normal attack, instead of forfeiting the next turn"
- Beast Master is relatively okay in comparison to the rest but still has unclear wording
- Blade Master does... something to the Hit Streak mechanic that I think is supposed to make moves that rely on it even more busted
- Reslience again making reference to the nonexistence Hit Streak mechanic
- Fire Arrow automatically deals "lethal damage" to anything Large or smaller, and Explosions caused by it are allegedly twice as large
- Wraith Finisher uses a cone that measures in meters instead of feet
- Brand causes any "drain"-type attack the Grave Walker makes to force a saving throw on the target or the target automatically becomes their slave
- Shadow Mount runs on Wraith Fire (again) and lets the Grave Walker freely use Beast Domination on Gargantuan beasts with no downside
- Double Critical Strikes gives you a a crit range of 15 to 20
- Flame of Vengeance gives you a damage bonus for keeping up your Hit Streak (which seems relatively okay), in addition to some unspecified +5 bonus that I didn't catch
- Double Charge lets you use two Hit Streak abilities at once when your Hit Streak is fully charged (and they are all already busted)
- Shadow Strike Chain "still consumes two Wraith Fire" but has absolutely no mention of what its actual effect is
- Quick Draw lets you fire twice with a bow in a single action... At 18th level?
- Wraith Burn is just an AOE Power Word Kill with extra fire damage icing and frightening effects on top
- Dispatch lets you instantly kill a minion, but nowhere does it say what a minion is or how you would get one
- Release lets you release a minion from your service, but again, nowhere does it say what a minion is or how you would get one
TL;DR: This page needs serious help, and more likely than not is going to need a complete redo. Endermage77 (talk) 23:21, 10 November 2021 (MST)
