Talk:Gemstonians (5e Race)
Rough drafts am I right? Okay, so the original version of this race was never meant to stick. The entire thing was my first excursion on putting a rough draft of my ideas on this wiki uncut, and it got the backlash it deserved. This is my second draft, revised, heavily trimmed down lore and abilities, and it still might be too much. What do you think? I need a second opinion here. --Supersmily5 (talk) 18:36, 10 June 2019 (MDT)
- It's an improvement, I've fixed up a few of the traits but I think it needs to be more concise as its rather disjointed and confused for me as someone who doesn't know anything about what verse this is based off. Speaking of which the page needs a {{Design Disclaimer}} for that. —ConcealedLight (talk) 03:04, 11 June 2019 (MDT)
It's... not based on anything. This is a creature of my own design. The idea could be comparable to a terminator or doppelganger though, as they appear human until heavily injured. Of course, this also means the lore is unique, and could be altered if needed to be less convoluted. Essentially though, D&D has already started adding other universes outside of the D&D Multiverse to the game, such as Lovecraft and Magic The Gathering. It wouldn't be a stretch, then, for it to be possible that other races could also originate outside of the D&D Multiverse, allowing different rules and histories to form creatures that otherwise wouldn't be possible within D&D because of the existing limitations on the story. --Supersmily5 (talk) 21:20, 13 June 2019 (MDT)
None of the above has to apply to your game as well. If you use different lore, no one will bat an eye because it has no lore base to begin with except what I write for it. --Supersmily5 (talk) 21:21, 13 June 2019 (MDT)
I will endeavor to make a typical Obsideon stat block this weekend. Calling upon the older versions of this race template, they'll have dual creature typing (Construct and Aberration), the ability to temporarily increase an ability score, a flying speed, and probably some form of spellcasting. I hope I can make it work. While I'm at it, I may make specific versions as well, for more powerful characters within the race. --Supersmily5 (talk) 21:40, 13 June 2019 (MDT)
Right. Anyways, I've partially reverted the recent changes to use the better wording and removed the vulnerability. As for what you're suggesting those are all pretty high power traits, regardless of if you say a PC can't use a particular subrace it isn't comparatively balanced and if so it shouldn't be on the race page. For cases like that the best option would be to create a creature that represents that subrace as creatures are entirely the privy of the DM and not includes a subrace for the race. Alternatively, include a substantially watered down version as the subrace. —ConcealedLight (talk) 04:52, 14 June 2019 (MDT)
Welp I just made a new version giving a little more clarity to the race's appearance and the Summon The Blade trait of its subrace. I never did put Obsideons on the wiki, so I'm about to get kraken. Wait, wrong kind of cracking. If you're wondering, the blade trait is comparable to an existing Warforged item in the new Eberron supplement, which is why it needs to have the arm being unusable as part of the trait. Summon a shortsword at will is otherwise OP since it can cut through some restraints. --Supersmily5 (talk) 13:20, 27 December 2019 (MST)
