This seems like a lot of setup, spell components, and spell levels for mediocre damage (that probably won't last) and a macabre torture method... I'm not sure why someone would take this unless it was at a lower level than 9th. - Guy (talk) 10:53, 9 November 2017 (MST)

Why is this a spell and not just a magic weapon? The effect lasts indefinitely, so aside from wasting some gold, an hour, and a reaction, it should function just the same without using a 9th level spell slot. Also, what is the point of keeping the target alive if you can't end the spell's effects OR cause the target to die? Why not make it so you can choose to let the necrotic damage kill them, or at least have some way of ending the spell other than just pulling out the weapon? Bigboymemezone
