Talk:Eye of Expansion (5e Equipment)
From D&D Wiki
It seems this item is intentionally unbalanced. Including it in a campaign fundamentally changes the balance of magic items. If this item is to remain as it is, I think it would benefit from a Design Disclaimer, or something of the sort. - Guy (talk) 00:42, 22 July 2017 (MDT)
- I think rewriting it would be the solution. Well, it needs rewriting anyway because of the wonky grammar.
- So firstly, the concept is to allow you to attune to additional magic items, so the attunment of the eye itself should be removed, because what's the point.
- Secondly, limit the additional attunments to one extra.
- Thirdly, the point of attunments is to limit the impact of magic items on the campaign. If the DM wants to allow magic items to have more impact, they can just adjust the number of attunments allowed at a campaign level. However, I have this idea: the PC with this item can have an additional attunment if they invest something into the eye, such as a number of hit dice. These hit dice are removed from your total HD while you have additional attunements. An uncommon item costs 1 HD; a rare costs 2 HD; very rare costs 3 HD, legendary costs 4 HD.
- Fourthly, change the "advantage on attack rolls" thing into allowing the bearer to cast true strike at-will. Then you can remove all that stuff about "current battle" and the contradictory recharges of "once per day" and "after a long rest".

There's usually a solution that doesn't involve a big "disclaimer". I've rewritten it so you get two extra attunements, but you invest your Intelligence score into them. This could be substituted for HD as I suggest above. Marasmusine (talk) 06:48, 23 October 2017 (MDT)
