Talk:Dvergur (4e Race)
From D&D Wiki
This race has interesting flavor bits. Balance-wise, it is an interesting power level if you have a lot of items to play with. I am wondering about the atypical layout of the race flavors outside physical qualities, since this page lacks the usual sections for attitudes and communities. The idea of the dwarves being able to use warforged items on their own bodies is intriguing. These dwarvish people are all flesh. but they sound like they have some predisposition that their flesh can handle mechanical augments, like something out of shadowrun? Otherwise, neat idea for dwarvish people that can become like cyborgs.--Yanied (talk) 13:48, 10 March 2024 (MDT)
-I'm glad you appreciate it, I thought it was a pretty cool idea as well! :D Well, I got the idea from the SELF-FORGED, on page 65 of the Eberron player's guide. In the paragon path, you can attach warforged items to yourself, basically via augmenting your flesh. They're essentially cyborgs, who can add magical/robitic parts to their flesh. This particular race can do it automatically as they are so good at handling advanced technology. They magically/surgically attach it to themselves at will, which virtually all members of the race know how to do and are more or less particularly suited for. It would a lot like implanting something under their skin, or like a piercing or tattoo for them. For story purposes, most of the warforged components are uniquely suited for this particular races physiology as they invented it and made the Warforged to begin with.
I suppose, them being Cyborgs is a better way to explain it! They are uniquely gifted at both using these implements and applying them to their own physiology. In theory other races could as well, but they would need to get some kind of special feature to allow them to do it and Dvergur naturally excel at this as a race. I had a sudden burst of inspiration for it, but I also had a sort of race like this in mind for a long time in my campaign. When I came come up with a reason why such a race is sufficiently different, I decide to go ahead and flesh it out. Also, it seems like such a waste for warforged components to only be usable by one race. These are excellent craftsmen, so it would seem like they could make it too. It feels like a natural fits for dwarves as they make all kinds of trinkets and magical weapons.
Also, I typically lump all the topics in to one area but I can add more about the Communities to clarify perhaps. They largely live in ancient ruins, some of them deep underground in old cave systems but that are still outside the underdark. JohnSmith82 (talk) 17:56, 10 March 2024 (MDT)
