Talk:Death Knight (5e Subclass)
From D&D Wiki
I believe this is an amazing archetype, especially for the campaign that I'm currently in. It's practicality is second only to its strength in combat. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 74.12.93.190 (talk • contribs) . Please sign your posts.
- How powerful do you judge this archetype to be? As it is, it seems stronger than all four official archetypes (not counting UA, but none of the UA fighters strike me as particularly powerful, except the arcane archer {but I digress.}). It gains a feature at 5th level and again at 12th level, which no other fighter archetype does. Grave Armor makes the DK probably THE best tank, Aura of the Damned gives a notable increase to DPR especially considering there's no limit on the number of profanities you can use per day, I'm not sure what Deathly Glamour is even supposed to do, nor Soulflay, Soulreaver gives a notable increase to DPR, Unholy Vigor makes a DK even better at tanking, Bound Weapon gives a +1 to hit which is not insignificant within 5e's bounded accuracy, and Siphon Strikes gives even more DPR in case AotD and Soulreaver weren't enough. To the archetype's credit, Shadow Meld is cool but may be worth reducing the range of, to probably 60 feet to match the shadow monk? Death's Embrace and Revenant are both flavorful and balanced, though Revenant is actually underwhelming and may need a boost. Feel free to fix these issues if you want the archetype to stay, but I'm leaving the deletion template there, especially since the standalone Death Knight is also a CfD. — Geodude671 (talk | contribs | email) . . 23:58, 30 September 2017 (MDT)
- Ive made a few revisions to balance the power. I see what you mean about the abilities at levels not regular to actual leveling. Ive buffed revenant, and added a quirk to having the profanities active at once. The bound weapon however i believe should maintain at least a +1.
This is extremely overpowered when compared to other subclasses.[edit]
Let's compare it to other classes.
Level 3 Samurai - 1 Skill Proficiency + Fighting Spirit Level 3 Champion - You crit twice as often Level 3 Brute - Your attacks do +1d4 damage
Level 3 Death Knight - Unholy Vigor, a Second Wind ability that you can use every turn instead of once per rest + If you don't need that, you can Soul Reaver to gain the level 11 Paladin ability. + Several other options + A better version of the Warlock's Pact Weapon + A significantly better version of the Paladin's Divine Smite ability
The better and more balanced version of this class can be found at the link below.[edit]
