Talk:Commune With Death (5e Spell)
Penalizing other players[edit]
This spell, as it currently is, is awful. Just straight up bad, like lycantrophy curse that means trouble for the party tha need to put up with it, not really the lycan player character. This might penalize OTHER players, by straight up killing them, for your choice. When you fail medicine check to stabilize a creature you do not stab it with a sword to kill it, for a very good reason - because no one would even attempt that! Not to mention someone can have pure intentions, fail the check and just kill a PC, when the character otherwise would just live through the death saves. Not to mention the edgy or bad players using this just to screw over others. As it is, no go. --Cezaryx (talk) 05:13, 11 April 2024 (MDT)
Hopefully I helped out getting rid of the problem! --Paste (talk) 23:32, 30 October 2024 (MDT)
I don't mean to be rude, but I'm not sure how you think the previous version worked or even how you could have misunderstood it to have a negative effect (it does nothing if you fail the check, and bad-faith players can already attack dying PCs if they want to without using this spell). IMHO, the newer rewrite is worse mechanically (agreeing w/ SirSprinkles), wording-wise, and flavorfully (having the way you contact "any death god of your choice" be so explicit is both awkward and limiting for the settings or scenarios the spell can exist in). I'm going to revert it for now, but if someone disagrees I'd be happy have my mind changed. --Bigboymemezone (talk) 21:45, 23 November 2024 (MST)
