Talk:Affect (5e Spell)
From D&D Wiki
Okay so this is a pretty interesting idea. Just a few issues here. For one, the "At Higher Levels" part does not adhere to the rules, for how a cantrip gets stronger is based on the level of the character. You cannot cast a cantrip with a spell slot. For example, Acid Splash deals 1d6 acid damage, which increases by 1d6 when you reach 5th level (2d6), 11th level (3d6), and 17th level (4d6). Another pointer is that you shouldn't limit the spells available to the PHB spells, the D&D world doesn't have that. You should have it so that this spell can use any cantrip that the character has studied, known, or seen. --Cosmos (talk) 13:26, 27 December 2018 (MST)
- Alright. Hello again, I've been on a break from all this for awhile because holidays. The At Higher Levels bit is at least slightly beta. I was trying to make the spell work more than make it workable within the game's normal rules so I'm open to suggestions on how you might go about fixing that. As for the PHB, I don't know how much the spell would change by having no constraints on the cantrips/spells you can recreate, but if it would still be balanced, than that can be changed as well. In any case, a brief read of the spell gives the basic idea away, which was the point of its creation. --Supersmily5 (talk) 17:22, 27 December 2018 (MST)
- So about suggestions for the "At Higher Levels," I would say you remove that and put in another section that days something along the lines of "If the cantrip is more powerful when the character is at certain levels, then it applies to you when you cast this spell." And as for having no constraints on what books can be used for spells, I don't think it will change the spell very much, because you have another constraint where the spellcaster has to have known the cantrip or seen the cantrip in order to use it with this spell, which, unless the spellcaster spends a lot of battles with a lot of different spellcasters, will greatly reduce the number of cantrips the spellcaster can choose for this spell. So yep. Sorry for being so picky and particular. I really like things to be neat, organized, understandable, and more or less professional looking. :) --Cosmos (talk) 20:08, 27 December 2018 (MST)
- That's a good idea. I'll change the spell accordingly. Thank you! --Supersmily5 (talk) 08:06, 28 December 2018 (MST)
- No problem. Also, a tip about chatting. When replying to another person's post, place down a colon : before your reply to make your text shift over to let someone know it is a reply to the previous response. Make sure you put down a number of colons equal to the number of colons in the previous section plus one (look at the colons in this text's code). --Cosmos (talk) 09:59, 28 December 2018 (MST)
- K. I don't normally use this, but here you go. --Supersmily5 (talk) 09:52, 29 December 2018 (MST)
