Soul Eater, variant (5e Equipment)
From D&D Wiki
Weapon ((evolving weapon)), Rare This unique weapon hungers for souls and is a potentially very powerful weapon. This blade is made of a foreign metal that is dark as night and swirls like that of a galaxy to the chosen wielder, but to all other players and npc's this blade seems to be a dull black blade that is ice cold to the touch. When this blade kills a creature(Besides Undead and Constructs) it consumes its soul, gaining +2 to its soul count if it was a humanoid and a +1 for other types. When first picked up, this sword has 2d4 - 1 souls. In addition, if the wielder has an alignment of Good, they are able to discern that this weapon has a malicious nature. (Such information is not given out by the DM unless inquired) The blade has a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls and starts as a longsword. Upon consuming 10 souls it will change into a weapon form the wielder chooses. Once the weapon changes form, each additional 20 souls it consumes, it deals an additional 1d6 necrotic damage. (Weapon's max soul capacity is 70, so at 70 souls, this weapon deals an additional 4d6 necrotic damage) If (in the span of 3 days) the blade does not consume a soul, its soul count resets to 0. Curse: While wielding this weapon, the wielder is compelled to attack the nearest living creature and must make a DC 15 Charisma saving throw to resist the compellment. On a success, the wielder automatically succeeds on this check for the next 24 hours. If the wielder of this blade would die, the weapon will consume their soul but will leave their body where they died. In addition, remove all damage from the wielder's body. Only the wish spell or similarly powerful magic can bring a person's soul back when they are consumed by this weapon. This curse can only be removed by that of a wish spell. If cast on this weapon, the remove curse spell causes the blade to hum with galactic energy. The caster of the remove curse spell must make a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw, or take 4d6 psychic damage(The spell also fails). On a success, the caster is able to dispel the curse on this weapon but only for 12 hours. |
