Shion is the only child of Miroku, the shrine maiden of the Land of Demons, and the only inheritor of the Haraigan, a dojutsu capable of seeing the distant future. However, due to having no control over her ability, her cryptic prophesies made others fear and avoid her, leaving her a lonely child. Her mother, in fear of the power she wielded should she be "corrupted", forbade her guards from teaching her ninjutsu. Instead, she was given a bell containing her mother's power, though she would rarely need to use it. When her mother died sealing Moryo away, Shion ascended to the position of shrine maiden, where her powers would grow.
