Shield of the Forgotten (5e Equipment)

Armor (shield), legendary (requires attunement) This shield is crafted from tarnished silver, etched with intricate designs depicting scenes of loss and despair. The surface of the shield seems to flicker with ghostly images of forgotten souls. Forgotten Defenses. This magic shield grants an additional +3 bonus to your AC. This bonus is in addition to the shield's normal bonus to AC. Once per long rest you can wreathe yourself in the sorrow of the forgotten, you gain the following benefits while wreathed in the sorrow of the forgotten, this ability lasts for 1 minute or can be ended early on your turn as a bonus action. You become immune to Necrotic damage and any necrotic damage that you would take becomes temp hit points equal to half the damage it would've dealt. You deal an additional 2d8 Necrotic damage with any attacks and can make an additional attack as a bonus action. You become Vulnerable to radiant damage while this ability is active. Cursed Presence. The shield exudes a haunting aura within a 30-foot radius. Any creature that starts its turn within this radius must make a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the creature is afflicted with one of the following effects (roll a d4 to determine): 1: Echoes of Sorrow: The creature takes 5d6 psychic damage and must make a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened until the end of its next turn. 2: Bonds of Remorse: The creature's speed is halved, and it takes a -2 penalty to AC until the start of its next turn. 3: Memories of Regret: The creature has disadvantage on attack rolls until the start of its next turn. 4: Eternal Guilt: The creature must make a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or become charmed by the nearest hostile creature until the end of its next turn. Dreadful Absorption. As a reaction when you are targeted by a spell or a magical effect that deals damage, you can use the shield to absorb the energy. You gain temporary hit points equal to the damage dealt, but for the next minute, you have disadvantage on all Charisma-based checks and saving throws. Anguish of the Forgotten. As an action you can release the full power of the Cursed Presence ability, Making all of its effects last for 1 hour however you must succeed on a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or become overcome with hatred and anguish causing you to go Berserk for 1 minute, while berserk you have advantage on all attack rolls, deal an additional 3d8 necrotic damage on a hit, you have resistance to Non-magical damage, and finally if you would be reduced to 0 hit points you instead revert back to half your max health once per long rest. After the minute is over make a DC 20 Constitution saving throw or become unconscious and gain 1 point of exhaustion for every 20 damage taken while berserk. Curse. This shield is cursed. Attuning to this item curses you until you are targeted by a remove curse spell or similar magic. Once attuned, The Shield of the Forgotten cannot be unequipped willingly. If another creature tries to forcefully remove it, they must succeed on a DC 20 Strength check or be unable to do so. Additionally, while attuned to this shield, you are unable to benefit from the effects of any other magical shield. |
