Shield Master, Variant
You use shields not just for protection but also for offense. You gain the following benefits:
- Increase one of your ability scores by 1
- Your shield bonus to your AC increases by 1
- While you are wielding a shield, it is considered as a light one-handed melee weapon with which you are proficient with, allowing you to make attacks with it just as you could any other weapon. When you attack with your shield, it deals bludgeoning damage equal to 2d4 + your Strength modifier
- When you take the Attack Action, as a free action, you can shove a creature within 5 feet, adding the shield's full AC bonus to the Strength (Athletics) contest.
- While you are wielding a shield, and if you aren't incapacitated, you can add your shield's AC bonus to any Dexterity saving throw you make against a spell or other harmful effect that targets only you.
- If you are subjected to an effect that allows you to make a Dexterity saving throw to take only half damage and you are wielding a shield, you can use your reaction to take no damage if you succeed on the saving throw, or half if you fail, by interposing your shield between yourself and the source of the effect.
