Ring of the Adept Linguist (5e Equipment)
From D&D Wiki
Ring, common (requires attunement)
This ring is made silver and bares a name, presumably that of the creator and two arrows which point in opposite directions. Long ago a keen traveller who was adept in many languages was trapped within this ring by an adversary of his. The wearer of this ring is able to understand 4 additional languages on top of that which they already know.
Additional Languages. The DM can decide which languages the ring grants the wearer. The ring can only provide understanding for 4 languages that the wearer does not know. The languages that one wearer is provided by this ring may change between multiple wearers, however the languages that the ring provides for one wearer is fixed and the languages do not change if removed and re-equipped.
Translator. The ring does not truly grant the wearer proficiency with the understanding languages. When using this ring, the language (provided by the ring) whether spoken to the wearer or read by is translated quickly to the wearer by the trapped being.
Sentience. The ring contains a trapped soul which translates languages to the wearer, apart from providing this function of translation the ring keeps quiet and normally does not talk to the wearer unless spoken to. It may be possible to release the soul from the ring, but doing so render the ring useless, turning it into a regular piece of jewelry.
