Prism Blade (5e Equipment)
{{{3}}} |
Weapon (Greatsword), artifact (Requires attunement)
Long ago, A large buster sword consisting of two matched curved blades back to back fell from the heavens and was found amidst a large smoldering crater filled with charred wood and other debris. the guards of the sword contained slots carrying nine large gemstone like orbs placed within its hilt guard. Although these gems were of unknown purpose or origin, one thing was very clear, whatever they were, these stones were incredibly powerful beyond comprehension. These orbs give off an ominous glow and many claim this is because the sword is from another world, this idea is further supported by the blades odd design conventions such as not containing a reinforced center.
Random Properties. The Prism Blade has the following random properties:
- 1 minor beneficial property
- 0 major beneficial properties
- 0 minor detrimental properties
- 1 major detrimental property
Elemental Exploitation The prism blade is a +3 magic greatsword. Each stone in the blade's guard represents a different element, and as such you can use a bonus action to change the additional damage of this weapon to one of the following types: fire, cold, lightning, poison, acid, thunder, necrotic, radiant, psychic, or force. It changes back after 1 minute, or when you end this as a bonus action.
Crystal Essence If you roll a 20 on an attack roll with this weapon, the target begins to rapidly crystalize and must make a DC 25 Constitution saving throw or a complete crystallization occurs, creating a perfect image at the time of petrification. When petrified in this way, their body will become a solid statue of a gemstone depending on the element selected at the time of the attack: fire results in ruby, cold in sapphire, thunder or lightning in topaz, poison in emerald, acid in amethyst, force in opal, psychic in quartz, necrotic in obsidian, and radiant in diamond.
Destroying the Prism Blade. While the Prism Blade cannot be destroyed, it can however lose it's magical properties if it remains in the stomach of a crystal dragon for a period of 100 years, in which case it reverts to being a mundane non-magical, albeit oddly shaped greatsword. The stones will remain within the pommel however they'll lose there glow and become completely mundane as well.
