The Pixel Buster

Weapon (Shortsword), Artifact (major) (requires attunement)

A unique projector capable of being used in close and long-range combat situations in addition to allowing its wielder to perform aether space editing.

This weapon has 12 charges and restores d6+2 charges each dawn.

Particle Slicer You gain a +3 attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. In addition, on a successful hit, this weapon deals an additional 2d6 force damage.

System Infection Whenever you deal damage to a creature with this weapon, you may roll a d4. On a 4 you inflict a random bug on the creature for the next minute. A creature may only be affected by a number of bugs equal to 4 + your proficiency bonus. You may roll a d4 to determine the random bug inflicted:

  • 1. Reduce their AC by 1.
  • 2. Reduce their Movement speed by 10.
  • 3. Apply a penalty to their attack rolls by 1.
  • 4. Select two options from above to apply.

Aether Space Editing By expending a charge, the Pixel Buster may edit the properties of a simple mundane item that has at least 1 gold value, such as the color of clothes, the texture of wood to be silky smooth, or the flavor of something to taste sweet instead of bitter. These changes last until you expend another charge to revert the changes.

Blaster Mode By expending 2 charges, as an action, you may augment the Pixel Buster to gather aether energy before releasing a massive blast of energy. Make a ranged attack roll against a creature within 120ft of you. On a successful hit, you will deal 2d6 + your Dexterity Modifier + 10 force damage to the creature and cause it to make a DC 17 Constitution saving throw. On a failure, the creature is Weakened and will take 5 additional damage from all attacks until the start of your next turn.

Allow Changes? By expending 3 charges, you may utilize aether space editing to change the makeup of a creature. As an action, choose a creature within 60ft of you and force them to make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failure, the creature takes 3d6 + Your Dexterity Modifier + 5 force damage, and you may select one damage type of your choice. If the creature has immunity or resistance to that damage type, they lose them until the end of your next turn. If the creature had no resistance or immunities to the damage type, they instead are vulnerable to that damage type until the end of your next turn. On a successful save, the creature takes half damage and suffers no additional effects.

Aether Projection By expanding 1 charge, you may use the Pixel Buster to cast the Minor Illusion cantrip. When using this cantrip, you may choose both a sound and an image. The Aether projections created when using the Minor Illusion cantrip will be DC21. On subsequent turns, you may also alter the projected hologram as a bonus action for the duration of the cantrip.

Aether Space Hacking The Pixel Buster is capable of remotely hacking, accessing, or interacting with any sophisticated piece of technology (such as computers, self driving cars, calculators, etc). The pixel buster may attempt to hijack or take control of a piece of technology for the next hour by having the user make a contested intelligence ability check against the size of the device. The DC will increase by 5 for every size tier above Tiny. ex. tiny DC: 5, Small DC: 10, Medium DC: 15, etc. You may use charges to increase the result of this check by +2 for each expended. The DCs for technology may be increased or decreased based on the difficulty and security of the object at the GM's discretion. Mechanical creatures that are sentient may not be affected by this feature. If a creature is controlling or piloting a hackable piece of technology they may make a contested intelligence check against you or lose control for the next minute. The creature who lost control may remake the contested check at the end of each of their turns to regain control.
